Question

Wiring a humcancelling single

Right-o everyone, I've just ordered a new set of pickups for my RG1570 - Dsonic, Cruiser and Breed.

They're due to arrive by the end of the week and I'll be installing them on Saturday, probably, but the Dimarzio wiring diagrams have me confused as hell.

The Cruiser is a hum canceling single for the middle position, and when I look at the HSH diagram for this, it gives me a diagram that has a pickup selector with 20 connectors? dimarzio.com//media/diagrams/B2.pdf

Would it be alright to wire it like a regular HSH like
dimarzio.com//media/diagrams/C.pdf ?

I'm not sure about how many wires come with the Cruiser and such, and want to make sure that the set will work without having to do anything else to my guitar.

Any help will be appreciated.

PS - Sorry about not being able to post proper links, Jemsite won't let me until I have 20 posts.

Re: Wiring a humcancelling single

Cruisers (and other similar single-coils) are 4-conductor.
DiMarzio diagram B2 is the schematic for a 5 position superswitch and is essentially used to turn off "half" of the single coil in positions 2 and 4 which in return gives you noise cancelling...
DiMarzio diagram C is the schematic for a regular 5 position switch [diagram is for a DiMarzio switch but similar to your switch]. To wire a 4-conductor single in the middle position, just connect black + white wires together and leave as is, solder red as hot while black + ground goes to the volume pot... the bad part of this, positions 2 + 4 would not be noise cancelling

Re: Wiring a humcancelling single

I have a question. Why would you want to coil tap the cruiser? It sounds remarkabley like a single coil anyway, what's the point in tapping it? You could have a single coil sound and noise cancelling if you leave it untapped.

BUt that's just me, so I'm not trying to disuade anyone just asking. Not knocking anything.

Email dimarzio and tell them what you want, I always get the diagrams from them. And they reply damn fast! HOORAY for dimarzio.
