Wiring a Telecaster for Humbucker and single coil

I have got a mexican tele, and recently was given some stock gibson pups, so thought i woud replace the neck pup on my tele with a gibson 'bucker.

I am reasonably confident that im not the first person to do this, largely as the tele is pre routed to take a bucker, however, i am totally failing to find a wiring diagram for this conversion on the net. Can anyone point me towards one?

also, is there anything else i should think about? i am good with a soldering iron, so no problems there, and was just wanting the standard tele 3 way, but with a humbucker in the neck, not the single. Im assuming there are a few different configurations for the 'middle' position on the selector, so what should i do? (i play post rock, noisy stuff)

I was also going to fit a kill switch.

cheers

toma

if it is a gibson humbucker as you say, it "should" be a single conductor with braid. solder the braid to the volume pot and the insulated condutor to where the tele neck pickup was before. done!

Cheers, i wont need any resistors or anything?
when in middle setting will that mean i have the bucker and the single going at he same time?
(mmmmm)

will there me a massive volume drop between the two pups?

(sorry for the bumper loads of questions!!)

Go to fender's website and look for the wiring diagram for the Vintage Hot ROd 52 Telecaster.

The Gibson pup will be hotter than a tele bridge so you may want to lower it into the body a little more to balance the 2. If the humbucker is a 4 wire, you could coil tap it with a pull pot or (if you don't use the tone knob) use the tone pot to kill one coil for more tone variations.

cool cheers guys, i have two more (reasonably foolish) questions

1) how do i tell the neck from the bridge pup of the stock set?

2) is there a 'right way round' to have them?

thanks a lot for your help guys!

generally the wires coming out of the neck pup will be longer, the bridge pup is further away from the control cavity

He's referring to where the wires come out of the base plate.
