Re: Wiring guitar for 3 humbuckers
easy, just wire the live wire from each pickup to the switch,
one wire from the switch output to the vol pot,
one wire from the vol pot to the jack.
connect all the ground wires to earth (usually a blob of solder on the vol pot)
I usually dont bother with tone pots, dont see the point and they dont do anything you cant do better with pedals or DAW's.

Ahem, you missed this thread:

You might be better off with a multi-pole 5-way switch, though.
Here's the diagram you need--eliminate the tone pot:

Pickups use magnets. The ends of the magnets are called poles, hence there are north and south poles.

Re: Wiring guitar for 3 humbuckers
How are we suppose to determine accurately which is which when the pickups are wrapped?

You'll have to draw a map. Then go outside on a windy day. Face the wind and spit. If it hits you in the face, then you're going North. Wire accordingly from there.

The manufacturer usually has color codes to ID the poles.

Well, thats whats sorta confusing ............ Theres HOT & Ground, Theres Positive & negative, theres North & South, I'll ASSume theese all basically mean the same thing. Im assuming. Just dont see why they call it NORTH instead of HOT or Pos. .... Its bad enuff when dealing with 4,5 & sometimes up to 10 wires, they should have a simpler more set method of describing a hot wire,IMO

Re: Wiring guitar for 3 humbuckers
For the most part they mean the same thing. I think the ones that say hot/ground usually deal with single conductor pickups (including some humbuckers). When you're dealing with 4 conductor pickups, then the north/south, positive/negative are more useful since you're most likely splitting coils, or wiring for series/parallel, etc.
I do agree that it can be confusing and extremely aggravating because it seems so simple sometimes and other times it feels like you need an electrical engineering degree.
