Re: X2N in Alder???

I played one in an Alder Strat for a while. The bass and both high/low mids, were pretty balanced. It was bright, both nothing like the EVO I put in there. The treble did get a little icepicky. But it would scream on leads.

Re: X2N in Alder???

although the thread is old, but i would like to point out that Chuck Schuldiner of Death used an x2n in a alder body. So pretty much you can hear it on all of Death's records

This is an extremely common misconception that is incredibly misleading. By the time the tone gets through his effects/eq, amps and final production process, you will be completely unable to discern the tonal characters of a particular pickup in a particular type of wood.

Re: X2N in Alder???

I'll add my $.02.

I've had an X2N in a Jackson Dinky, and it gave me a splitting headache everytime I played it. I've also had it in my maple Lado, just as an experiment....I then stuck my head in the freezer to get some relief. LOL.

This pickup seems to be best-suited for mahogany tonewood. But, if you are set on having a monster-output pup in alder, I might suggest a Seymour Duncan Invader.
