X2N sound samples

http://www25.zippyshare.com/v/44209373/file.html

Made a recording with the X2N. I could get a farely tight sound out of it, but I can't seem to get that midrange chunk I want, I have the mids set pretty high on the amp, but still not what I want. I want that good midrange chunkyness, like my strings were dipped in a tub of gravy lol. Maybe it's stupid how I describe it, but I'm sure lot of you know what I'm talking about.

Signal chain:
Cort M600 with EB Cobalt 10-52
Maxon OD808
Peavey Valveking 100 ( Ruby 6L6GC tubes, EHX 12AX7 tubes)
Home made closed back cab(based on the orange 212) with Celestion V30
Shure Beta58A, in to the plain old sound blaster 5.1

2 tracks played, one panned left, on right

I'm thinking of gettin a pari of Dominions, heard good hing about it, and has a midrange boost, would that get me the desired sound? I was describing earlier?

Re: X2N sound samples

Sounds great chaser. If you really want to pull more midrange out....you might want to consider switching one or both cones to G12T-75's.

I use a pair of them and a pair of V30's in my cab...... The V30's really capture an open high-end, but their fairly flat in the mids. The G12T-75 are designed for a pronounced midrange. The two types together give a tight but very full mid to high mid sound.

Re: X2N sound samples

To my knowledge the V30 has more midrange and the G12-T75 has mroe treble

This sound samples proves this.

I really dig Mark Mortons tone here. I know the VK wont sound like a Mark V, but the Dominion pickups have a big midrange boost

Re: X2N sound samples

yep the g12t-75 has more of mid scoop with top end sizzle. The v-30 has a full warm mid range.

check out www.avatarspeakers.com for some of the best prices on eminence and celestion speakers. Usually the higher the wattage rating on a speaker the more the lows and low mids are thrown out but magnet and overall construction play a huge part to that as well also effiecency of the speaker.

i didn't like the x2n too much for the fact that it was hard for me to get a thick chuncky sound out of. The d-sonic is great for depth and clarity, the breed is too which the dominion is based on. It is almost impossible to get a shrill sound out a breed but the clarity is amazing.

It sort of depends on if you are going for more of a smooth big bold mid range or a chuncky crunchy thick mid range.

I have also never been much of fan of ruby tubes or ehx. As an experiment swap around your pre-amp tubes to see if you dont notice any change. It doesn't cost any money and can make a fair amount of difference. ( especially in the V1 slot)

You may also consider getting something like a 10 or 7 band EQ.

As stupid as it sounds and i am certainly not insulting you by saying it but check the owners manuel for recommened sound settings. I have ragged on amps that i thought were junk only to come back to them later and figure out i love them. I was just not setting them right.

most peavey amps(xxx, jsx, 6505) i turn the res up to around 7, the presence down to about 3, 5 or 6 on the highs, around 8 on the mids and 8 on the lows about 7 on the gain. Does the trick most of the time.

Re: X2N sound samples

Tubes are pretty expensive :S
But what would you recommend?
It's almost impossible to get a fat sound out of the X2N, that's why I'm thinking about the breed or the dominions, but I'm more in to the dominions I think.
Also thinking about it that later I want to get a 7 string guitar, dominions and the breeds are not available in 7 strings, it would be cool to get the same tones.

I really dig the JB, 59/custom and the blackout emty here
I know they are SD-s, just looking everything on the market

I can't get close as fat my VK as fat is in the video

Re: X2N sound samples

Good recording, maybe get a EQ and put it in FX loop. Try to shape the sound to your liking with an EQ like MXR M108, or a Boss GE7.

Re: X2N sound samples

Well, I don't want more stuff on my pedalboard, I wan't to get the tone directly.

http://www9.zippyshare.com/v/30290790/file.html

Here is another sample, it just doesn't have that midrange chunk and fattness that I'm looking for :S

Thinking of gettng the BReeds or the Dominions, hope those will do the trick

Also, how are the breeds or the dominions differ in basswood and mahogany?

http://www34.zippyshare.com/v/74876584/file.html

Found an older recording, this is just one track, panned middle, here the X2N was in a basswood body, seems to bee much more chunkier, but a lot less tight.
