Thumbs up

Acoustic songs?

Ok, I've just shelled out on a new Dean acoustic that should be here in the next week.

Now then, I'm a natural-born shred guy, lol. I really don't play acoustic stuff but I thought this would be great for practicing exercises on. Perhaps more importantly, I thought it'd be great to learn some nice acoustic crowd pleasers.

As some of you know I live in a pub, and people are for ever seeing me walking around with guitars and saying "Give us a song!" to which I'll say "Well, I know this really cool solo and it goes like this..." widdlidldidldiwweee!!!! So yeah, it'd be nice to say "How about this little number..." and reel off a familiar song.

At the moment I've got Dancing Queen (obviously the Paul Gilbert version because as you may or may not know, I want his children, in a manly-hetero kind of way ) I'm listening to Eric Clapton's Unplugged album too for inspiration. Now then, at this moment I'm drawing a complete blank for other songs to learn, and before someone says "Play u're 0wn toOns loser" I'm after songs that are either a) nice for me to play on my own for a chill out b) MOST importantly, songs your average Joe Punter will get into.

Please lay 'em on me!

Just don't include More Than Words

Good thinking!

It's weird, things are right in front of your eyes some times and you still don't see them.

Extreme are one of my favourite bands but most people don't know who they are until you say "They did that song... More Than Words."

It is THE middle-aged housewives anthem.

Anyway! Yeah I've already learnt "To Be With You" and I'm going to learn "Wild World" too. It's time to grow my hair long again so I can flick it around whilst wearing lot's of denim and leather, lookin' all sexified, hehe

Re: Acoustic songs?

Ugly Kid Joe's version of Cat's in the Cradle or go to www.whitesnake.com, go to Snake Skin Flix and find Sailing Ships, killer acoustic version of that. Those were the last 2 acoustic songs I was missing with.

Re: Acoustic songs?

Dave - acoustics can be great fun. Try some of my personal favourites:

Abba - "Does Your Mother Know" and "Mama Mia"
Beatles - "Blackbird"
Eagles - "Hotel California" (best on a 12 string though)
Bon Jovi - "Always", "I'll Be There For You" and "Wanted Dead or Alive" (all best on a 12 string too)
Pink Floyd - "Wish You Were Here"
Rolling Stones - "Wild Horses"
Poison - "Every Rose Has It's Thorn"
Guns N Roses - "Don't Cry"
Skid Row - "I Remember You"
Green Day - "When September Ends"
Jimi Hendrix - "Hey Joe"

and la piece de la resistance:

Stevie Ray Vaughan - "Pride and Joy"

That should keep you going for a bit
