slap was around way before Johnson.. Slap bass goes back before the electric bass was invented..

He can groove but hes no master by any means.. Hes not even high on the list of some of the best bass players.. No disrespect..

You want to see a master then you need to watch Stanley Clarke or Larry Graham, Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten, James Jamerson, Jaco Pastorius, Oteil Burbridge those are masters.

Check out Bela Fleck and the Flecktones if anyone thinks Vic cant groove.. One of my favorite bands.

I've only just bought a bass and started getting into it, so thanks for the pointers! Any links that might help me improve my technique would be much appreciated. Thanks mate.

James Jamerson - Listen to Motown songs.. He had his hand in a crap load of them haha..

I would start with those Cds thats enough to have ya drooling for weeks

And get the Flecktones just cause they kick ass, my favorite Flecktone song.
