Buying through Jemsite - advice

I'm sorry if this isn't the place to post this, but I've been searching to try tto find some general rules and advice about buying but couldn't find anything substantial.
I've found a guitar on Jemsite I'd like to buy but I'm new to Jemsite and so don't have any experience.
The seller hasn't sold on Jemsite before, either.

We've begun emailing each other to try to resolve the issue of trust, but neither of us knows a decent way to carry out the transaction (he's in the US, I'm in the UK).
If anyone has decent advice, I'd love to hear it. I'd like to buy as soon as possible before someone else more savvy snaps it up.

Thanks.

It may cost a bit more, but try asking a guitar store if you give them 25 pounds if they would receive the guitar, you could go check it out and if it is good, they could send him the money. Any middle man, but someone you both trust. This is a business waiting to happen, "middle-man dot com".

That's a good idea but I don't think the chap is going to be happy sending the guitar without first receiving payment, which is understandable.
But you are right, that's a business waiting to happen. You should look into that before someone else does.

I didn't know what escrow was so I just wikipedia'd it. That seems to be a bloody good idea (that's pretty much your idea,Gilk420....shame). I'll check with the seller and see if he'd be happy with that. Thanks Ibanezcollector
Are there any companies you or anyone would recommend as having decent rates/good reliable service?

Ahh! I always wondered what escrow meant. Maybe all the people who don't know what "escrow" means would use my site

haha Good idea. Middleman.com is much more obvious. I was the same, too. Want to go into partnership?
