Calculate percentage of playtime on your guitars.

A question in another thread got me curious.

We probably all, or most of us have several guitars.

So, you've spent $$$ on guitars you just HAD to have. Now, how much do you play them? Are you surprised at the results? Did you buy a guitar thinking you'd play the heck out of it, but don't, or buy a spare/backup/goof off guitar that you play more than you'd thought you would.

Here's my line up.

Playtime:
4 Guitars.

LP 60%
Thought I'd love it, and I do. It covers a lot more ground tonally than I expected it too.

Strat 20%
When you need Strat tone. You have to have it. Other guitars can sound Strat-like, but
real Strat owners will testify, Nothing sound's just like a Strat.

PRS SE 10%
It was my "LP" till I got the Goldtop. It fills the space of heavy chunka chunka drop D stuff. It doesn't do clean stuff as well as the LP, not even close.

Custom Built 10%
This is my "shred" unit. It has OFR. The only trem I like. Maple neck and great tone all the way around. I keep 9's on it. The guitar like 9's best. I like the guitar enough, but it only does a couple things very well, like the Strat. Not as versatile as the LP.

I have a Takamine acoustic that I teach with, but I don't play it much around the house. Also I have a Baby Taylor that's great for taking places. I pitch on a softball team and it gets plays while I'm waiting to bat.

I've severely thinned out my collection right now I have my Martin, strat, a 61 RI SG, and Epi SG, my S540 LTD, and my project Tele

It's pretty much
80% 61 RI
5% Epi SG (after a few weeks comparing, this thing is garbage next to the 61 RI)
5% Tele
5% My Strat
5% My Martin
0% S540 LTD

90% customized RG2550 and 10% between MIJ Jackson JS30 and MIJ Fender Strat, which reminds me I need to sell them both.

Sold them all. Sucks.
Needed to get money to help with wife's immigration costs, mother inlaws financial problems, wife found a lump in her breast, and so on. Plus with playing less and working more it seemed pointless to have literally 10s of thousands of dollars in equipment not being used. Im not happy about it but there are more important things than a lot of guitars.
The last one to go was the Goldtop. I sold it replaced it with the 61 RI and made a nice little bit extra. When things level out here Im going to pick up one LP if Im still playing and call the collection done. Maybe get a 52 RI Tele too.

I'd say, for me anything less than 10% playtime starts to get selling consideration. Dust collectors go.

At the moment, 100% my red '91 RG770DX with Lo-Pro and direct mount pickups.

I tend to go in phases, but Red is the only one who's out of his case at the moment.

...I'm liking fixed bridge guitars more and more. I guess I'm simplifying more and more as I get older.

I would agree except I think everyone should have an acoustic, a strat, tele, and something LP ish. My strat would get played more, but Im starting to think its cursed. The S540 doesnt get played at all, but it still cant go for sentimental reasons, plus it just isnt worth enough to justify selling it.

Shoot, this is pretty hard to gauge, but I'd have to say over the last 10 years 90% is probably on my PRS Custom 22. The other 10% is a toss-up between various other guitars.

At the moment it's 100% spongebob 550. I don't have too much time to play with a tournament coming up, and spongebob is right next to my desk so it gets all the play. 550's, you can't beat 'em with a stick. Next week will probably be all bass.

Ibanez RG 560-100%

It's the only guitar I currently own, but even if it wasn't I bet much wouldn't change. It is far and away the perfect guitar for me. Even after owning a Gibson, a custom made, a G&L and others. You'd think that would cure my GAS, but it hasn't.
