customs duty paying

ok im thinking of getting a squier 51 and modding the hell out of it, but i was wondering how much import duty is?
basically its on sale for 104.99 at most online UK shops, but in the US its $99.99 (thanks for making me aware of this amazing deal mr Ayrton!!) and most places charge around $30 for shipping. that leaves me with about 30 quid to play with in terms of price difference before tax!!
is it just the standard 17.5% VAT or is it more than that?

Re: customs duty paying

$30 shipping a guitar from US to the UK?!? Seriously? Where'd that figure come from?

You'd have to pay 22.5% import tax on the guitar. So a further $22.49.

Re: customs duty paying

Plus all other sundries they apply.

Seriously, I have bought almost all of my guitars from abroad and the value may be the same but the VAT and duties I pay fluctuate like there is no tomorrow.

PLUS, Parcelforce (who'll be delivering to you) add an extra £15 or so for the privelege of it landing in there laps when it crosses the border!

Re: customs duty paying

that can't be right, the cheapest I ever shipped a guitar overseas was like $90 USPS, take away the case and maybe $10-$15 cheaper.

Re: customs duty paying

Here in Denmark I pay tax and customs. First they take the price of the package including the shipping costs and calculate the customs from that (5.25 % for a guitar) then they slam you with 25 % duty tax . Finally you pay a customs fee that they also tax . Just to give you and example a guitar I bought in Canada through **** cost me 480 USD plus 240 USD for shipping. I ended up paying over 200 USD in customs and taxes to get the guitar.

Regards

André

Did you physically call them on the phone and ask? The only way it could is if it was 8lbs or less and they use economy post with is like 1 1/2 months shipping time.

calculate it yourself:

Re: customs duty paying

i didnt call them and ask, but if you put the guitar in the basket then go to the checkout and it calculates the shipping. i guess it just means music 123 do it privately in bulk to save money maybe?

Re: customs duty paying

I'd seriously call them and double check, websites are wrong all the time. I hope its only $30, but, like I said, I hope you like waiting up to almost 2 months for shipping.
