High end clock radios

My Bose Wave radio just died. Or more accurately was killed with liquid spillage inside. They shouldn't make the top so nice and flat to temp you to set a drink on it!

I am now in the market for a new bedside clock radio. With Bose equivalent sound.

I had considered this one. I saw it locally, and it sounds pretty good. But the clock doesn't display when the radio is on. Pretty lame.

I will probably get another Bose Wave. But before I do, I'd like to search and see whats out there. Recommendations?

Wait a sec. Just read reviews on the new Bose Wave. No buttons? You have to use the remote to do EVERYTHING? Including hit the snooze? I'll pass on the Bose.

You should always pass on Bose reguardless of the amount of buttons.

It's probably more like asking for a Crate that sound like a Mesa. I don't want to buy anything I can't demo first. I'm not even sure where to go to listen to "better" radios. What a pain.

Agreed. Clock radios aside perhaps, since nobody in their right mind wants an audiophile clock radio (Yes, I mean that. I mean for gods sake. It wakes you up and thats it. If I want audiophile I'll listen to a REAL stereo.), I have NEVER heard a bose product that lived up to its reputation.

Headhones? I'll pass thankyou, Grado are far superior.

And of course anything else is a similar situation. Kef make better speakers, etc etc.



Oh, and btw, I've looked at the design of the wave a few times...I think I can safely say it really doesn't sound THAT good. You're never gonna get bass from that equivalent to even the smallest Kef Bookshelf speaker, crazy waveguides or not. They're effectively attempting to increase the length and amount of air being moved by a very small driver, and even complex horn loaded designs that take up an entire corner of the room don't get below about 60/80Hz doing that. Not with any authority.

Now go and buy a pair of Grado SR60's, or better yet, SR80s, listen to some good CDs through those, and tell me the Bose sounds anywhere near as convincing.

And don't talk to me about sennheiser...

Actually I have a couple of Bose 141 bookshelf speakers hooked up to my bedroom stereo and they sound very good for the money.
If I were spending big bucks then yeah I'd probably look elsewhere.

Chicks and old farts buy Bose (Sorry Darin but, that's just the truth bro ).

Bose has been and still is the standard for marketing technique. They sink so much money into marketing their products that people who wind up buying their stuff wind up believing the hype and thinking they got audiophile quality in a small package (this is the part that makes chicks buy into the hype and the married ones who tell their husbands that it's either Bose or nothing because it matches the decor of the house).

For the price of a wave radio, you can buy a decent pair of B&W's and they'll sound 10 times better and louder than a wave radio.

Check any pro home theater user group or forum and watch the sharks circle at the mention of Bose or Monster.

Having sold high end audio in the past, my ears are so biased to good stuff. It didn't help matters that I used to listen to a pair of $15,000 B&W's to some of my favorite cd's.
