Re: Hip Hop? No, I say!!!

Please excuse me, I forgot something.

MC Frontalot is awesome. Look up some of his stuff. It's pretty cool if you're all nerdy/geeky. Could be why it's called "nerdcore hiphop"

I love all forms of music, I just don't like all of their so called "artists".
You got dig deep to find the good stuff. =)

I actually like more the DJ turntable artists better. Like the Invisible Scratch Pickles. A good buddy of mine he hads this battle dj video I have to say man it was awesome to watch. I liked the hybrid experimental hip hop. I love still love The Herbaliser.

While I'm not a fan of Hip Hop I don't hate it. I don't actually know if it's difficult to do or not, so I just let others think what they want and remember a lot of people HATE metal and say it's not music either, and for me it's the best sounding stuff ever.

Re: Hip Hop? No, I say!!!

I'm not a fan of hip hop or rap, but there was an Eminem song with a cool video I got to like because my kids watched it all the time. I don't know the name of the song, but it was the "this looks like a job for me" one with the Batman and Robin costumes. I'd still rather listen to Mike Stern though And if I had my choice right now of listening to that song or anything by Meshugah, I'd take the Eminem

Re: Hip Hop? No, I say!!!

I could write a book on this topic.......but wont. Suffice it to say, I detest Rap and Hip hop......in fact I just died a little inside when I typed the words....LOL!! This is not music. I find it particularly irksome when these "artists" are called musicians in fact.

I would call this genre Performance art before I'd classify it as music. I kind of think of it as an updated version of the old Beatnick poetry with bongo accompaniment type of thing. The only difference to me is, at least there was a human playing the bongos!!

Its not too difficult to make hip hop music just to make it. To make quality hip hop its like trying to make the the perfect pop song. Striking the balance of groove and melody but hip hop does have a minimalistic approach. The toughest part will always be coming up with clever rhymes. I was big on this label in the UK called MoWax and I would make these mix CD for myself and I would sneak a few of my trip hop instrumentals. I went this party and the majority of people liked that stuff so I threw that CD in the player there and I be getting wasted somewhere I come back to the room with the music theres a circle of dudes spontaneosly rhyming over the music it was then I got the grasp of how it all comes together and how the music inspires these guys to just let loose with their ryhming. I befriended alot of hip hop dudes who make the music. Its great to see how much they love making that type of music. It was a very good lesson to learn to understand the level of think of that type of music.

Re: Hip Hop? No, I say!!!

I don't care what anyone says; Public Enemy, NWA, Tupac, and Snoop-Dog is good hip-hop.

I agree though that ALL of the hip-hop you hear today is crap. It's all about just trying to make a buck, the music apparently doesn't matter in the genre any more. Probably because it's easier to make music that relies on one repeating hook than an actual structured song. I think that our generation of young kids have been 'brainwashed' into enjoying this kind of music by society so that 'hip-hop' is kept alive, because they clearly can't think of any more ideas.

Unfortunately I think this has happened in all genres of music. All except maybe the uber experimental types. Genre's of music have pioneered during times when they were breaking new ground. Whether it be because distortion on amps got more advanced and then metal and rock emerged. Hippies were over the top on drugs in there rebellious years creating psychadelic music....etc etc. Its almost like there's no new ground to cover. Yer you can write new songs.... but originality is almost all but extinct. Emo... is original sort of.... but its the worst form of music that I can think of. I would much rather hear Tupac on the radio... who was actually good at what he did, than some confused bisexual whinging about not getting hugged by his dad.

It bothers me to know... that emo bands and is what my generation is gonna be remembered by. I envy all you dudes that grew up when gunners, metallica, Pink Floyd and all these supercool bands defined the generation. It is unfortunate.

I totally agree. I picture my future kids coming up and saying "Daddy, did you listen to Fall-Out Boy during high school?" The thought kills me.

Oh and we're also blessed with the plague of High School musical.

Re: Hip Hop? No, I say!!!

If Hip Hop were a food, to me it would look, smell and taste disgusting, but that's no big deal, some folks like some things and others don't.

Personally, I don't particularly like mushrooms, but I couldn't care less if someone else wants to chow down on them. The other side of the coin is that no matter how much someone else tells me mushrooms taste good, to me they will always taste like sh*t. Each to their own I say.

Rock on!
