Re: NHL '11-'12 BS thread
Well the Rangers move on but the Panthers don't.
It's going to be interesting to see what Panthers management does now. IMO they're one star center and a good defenseman away from being much better. Hopefully they don't fall back on their old habits of trading good players for nothing. I wouldn't blame Weiss if he asked to be traded, though. 10 years and no playoffs? That's kind of sad.
PS: Congrats to your team Jim!

WooHoo! The Panthers played a hell of a series. Wish we had a little more time to rest up our walking wounded before the Flyers, but Sunday at 3Pm isn't much time.
Saw this on one of the devils' boards

Re: NHL '11-'12 BS thread
From Larry Brooks in today's New York Post:
"A look at the final week or so of the NBA season with myriad teams appearing to tank to gain an advantage in the playoffs, added to the annual farce that occurs in the NFL when teams rest players after clinching playoff spots, only served as yet another contrast to the integrity with which
NHL
teams conduct their business from Game 1 through 82.
For on the NHL season’s final Thursday, the Devils and Flyers both played to win when losing would have served the best interests of each.
The Devils, who could have locked themselves into the six seed with a defeat, went into Detroit and beat the Red Wings with Martin Brodeur in net.
The Flyers, who could have kept the possibility of sliding to six alive with a defeat to the Sabres, defeated a Buffalo team that needed a victory to stay in the hunt for eighth place.
With all of the criticism heaped on the league, no one can ever question the honor with which its teams and players compete.
And that sets the NHL apart.

True, he forgets conveniently to call out the 80's Penguins, but still nice to see.

Yeah the NHL rules. I kind of wanted the leafs to lose more than they did to get a higher draft pick (maybe) - but it was nice that they still tried.

Re: NHL '11-'12 BS thread
Hey Colin, I hear the Leafs might be interested in Luongo...that's what they were talking about this morning on the sports radio show here with Bob McKenzie...the writing is on the wall the Lou is going to go to a new team and apparently the Leafs are a front runner for his services...
Kings sure looked good last night...I think if I were a betting man I'd be betting on them to come out of the west...but what do I know - I went 1 for 7 in my first round predictions...lol... ;o)

Re: NHL '11-'12 BS thread
The Devils have finally come clean on Kovy; he was injured in the first game against the Panthers and will sit out tonight (at a minimum). And I was under the impression a groin injury needed a month or so to heal? The Flyers aren't the best team to go down 2 games to zip against, going to have to hope for a very leaky Bryz tonight and a tie coming back to the Rock

Yeah, I'm surprised even at how well LA is doing. Carter, Richards, Brown, and Kopitar are taking care of business while Quick is shutting the door. Fellow Ranger fans might hate me for saying it but I think Quick just might be most deserving of the Vezina.

Re: NHL '11-'12 BS thread
Hah yeah I heard that about the Leafs being interested in Luongo. I hope they don't pull the trigger. If Luongo thought there was pressure in Vancouver . . . . He'd do best to avoid Toronto. The Devils/Flyers game was surprising last night - as was the disappearance of the Flyers team in the second period . . .

Collision of talent and determination on the Devils side running over a complete lack of respect from the Flyers. I am hoping it continues Thursday

Re: NHL '11-'12 BS thread
It was a helluva game! Both goaltenders were awesome and when they wore out they got some help from their posts. PING! And even Boyle's leg made a save for the Caps. It was a ridiculous yet highly entertaining battle for the ages; made better by the fact that the Rangers won.
If we can contain Ovetchkin better and get some scoring up I have a sneaky feeling we'll see another NJ vs NYR Eastern Conference Final.
Now, let's see if the Kings can go up 3-0 on the Blues tonight!
