I'm OK with him but not OK with his cap hit. That said, everyone wanted to dump Campbell because of his cap hit but these days, it doesn't seem all that insane.
Luongo would be the best Hawks goaltender since Belfour. Niemi won the Cup but let's not kid anyone about the team he was playing behind. The Hawks have over seven million in cap space and that's with a full 23 man roster and a few dumb contracts. They've shown that they're more than willing to bury bad contracts in the minors, so no reason to believe they won't do it again.
I think Bowman saying he's in no way interested in Luongo is posturing. They can afford to send Crawford back the other way and they have some kid in Rockford who they're apparently pretty high on.

Re: NHL '11-'12 BS thread
Short season? what do you guys think. The league seems to not just want to reduce pay, but tie players hands at negotiations. 10 years before UFA, no arbitration. The players are stupid if they agree to that stuff. I'm not sure how the league can have the balls to even ask for 5 year maximum contract lengths after what the teams have been offering players. Hell Weber just took a 14 year $100 million deal.
Hockey
seems to finally be picking up in the States, it's stupid of the owners to want to play hardball now.

Re: NHL '11-'12 BS thread
I hope Bettman and Co don't shoot themselves in the foot again. I was left with a really bad taste in my mouth after the last lockout; so much so that I didn't follow the sport for a few years. IIRC, hockey was gaining traction then too. From what I remember ESPN dumped them after the lockout and they had to go to Versus for coverage in the US. Seems kind of dumb to cut off one's nose to spite the face.
Also, the words "Season Not Played" should never again appear on The Cup.

Agreed...
...but I will be absolutely shocked if the NHLPA and owners reach an agreement in time to start the regular season - I just cant see it happening... I also don't understand what the owners are doing handing out all these monster 100 million dollar deals and then trying to play hard ball at negotiations...it doesn't make sense... I for one am tired of hearing about 10+ year 100 million dollar contracts...especially when the economy is still in such rough shape and the average Joe is having a hard time making their monthly payements, especially in the US where the economic recovery has been more sluggish...it's craziness...

I don't think the season will start on time, but I think it will start at some point.
The problem with the current 10 year contracts is the huge up front bonuses that don't count towards the cap hit. The Devils got got fined 5 million and 3 draft picks for Kovy's contract, but Parise is getting a 12Mil salary and 10Mil bonus for each of his first two seasons with a 7.5 mil cap hit. His 3rd season is 11Mil with 5Mil bonus for another 7.5 cap hit. That kind of crap should stop.

I totally agree - it is total crap - but it's good for the players and the team owner's obviously don't mind it cuz they're the ones handing these contracts out so I don't know where it ends...

Re: NHL '11-'12 BS thread
It was good for the team and the player when we signed Kovy too, but Bettman still decided to punish us the absolute maximum amount allowed by the CBA. I hate Bettman lol

Re: NHL '11-'12 BS thread
I've been watching college hockey. It's slim pickings in down here but I caught the BC BU game last night. Not bad.
Too bad the AHL can't fill the void or directly compete with the
NHL
. I'm sick of this crap. Twice in ten years! BS!

Yeah, I'm not spending a dime on NHL related stuff in '13, regardless.

Re: NHL '11-'12 BS thread
I was hoping the Western Michigan vs Michigan game would be on NBC tonight but it looks like they're playing "Raging Bull". :P
I guess that would probably get better ratings than a college hockey game.
You guys in the north, and Canadians especially, are probably ready to riot! hahaha! I was so looking forward to seeing how this season would play out after the end of last season. How well will the Kings defend the Cup? Will Ottawa spring back? Rick Nash playing as a Ranger? Can the Cats keep some kind of momentum? What will NJ be like? How may people will go to the Islanders games knowing they're moving to Brooklyn in 2015? Will Torts keep the Rangers diving like Secret Service agents in front of the puck? (I'll admit now that got REALLY fraking annoying!)
Oh well.... I guess we have to wait.
