Re: NHL '11-'12 BS thread

Not a fan but the Wings are a great team. Great fans too.
Funny, how long was it after my last post did LA fire Terry Murray? Half an hour? Yeah, too much tallent on that team to sink so low. Looks like Darryl Sutter will be coach. Odd, I think it was Duane Sutter that replaced Murray in Florida.
Speaking of the Cats looks like NJ got one on us in a shootout.

I should add that while I like Terry Murray his LA team was sometimes as boring to watch as his Panther team. And it's a higher scoring game now than it was then.

You don't want to go to a shootout with the Devils, because you won't get that second point. They don't do enough right, but they sure do that right.

We're in the opposite boat - Luongo is terrible on shootouts...last night the BJ's had 3 shots and 3 goals on Luongo.

Looks like Pronger might be done - and not only for the season...I can't stand the guy but that's not how you want to see someone go out...

http://www.thestar.com/sports/hockey...f-the-ice?bn=1

Two prominent concussion specialists, Dr. Joseph Maroon and Dr. Micky Collins, who have also been treating Pittsburgh star Sidney Crosby, advised the Flyers that Pronger should not return for the rest of the regular season or the playoffs.

Re: NHL '11-'12 BS thread

I know the Failures are good for this year if Prongs goes on LTIR, they can wipe his cap hit off the books, but I don't know if that will work for the rest of his career. there's no way he retires and leaves that money on the table.

I'm not a fan but can anyone guess if Crosby is done for the season? Or maybe for good? Better to bow out than have your brain turned to mashed potatoes and where you're forgetting your name every few minutes. Sad to see it happen to anyone.

I don't know what's going on with Crosby. It would be a blow to hockey to lose him though.

6th place in the East now for the Devils

Devils-Rangers tonight I would LOVE to see the Devs pound them hard just to watch Torts' reaction to it on 24/7 Elias is out though, so hopefully we can step up without him.

Devils didn't do so well against the Rangers - but they are playing better lately - 4 wins in their last 5 I think...also holding down 8th spot I believe...

What do you guys think about what is going on in Montreal? The coach can't speak french so the fans are calling for his head? stupid...should they hire a less qualified coach who can speak french? that doesn't make sense to me...

As a lifetime Habs fan, this season has been very difficult to watch. You won't find a Habs fan that thinks the coach should speak French, except maybe a few lunatics in Quebec. I wouldn't care if he spoke Klingon, as long as they win games. This team has so many issues that it's almost impossible to pin it on one issue. Firing Martin was a huge mistake, it changed nothing besides making an already tense situation in Montreal even more so. Montreal is known for having smaller, faster guys, but now they just have too many, and only 1 of them can score goals. Cammalleri has been terrible so far into the season, taking shots from bad angles, zero effort on the ice. Gionta is not putting up any points, and is now injured as well. Gomez is just Gomez, and is easily the best paid bench warmer in the NHL. Desharnais is the only glimmer of hope the Habs have, along with Pacioretty. The back-up goaltender can't win a game for his life. The Markov signing was a big mistake. Yes he is a great defenseman and I wish he could be playing, but he is always injured. So what if he comes back?, it won't be long before he is injured again and out another season. Kaberle was brought in to stop the bleeding, and I didn't even mind the trade for him because he is a step up from Spacek, but there are just too many other issues that they have to deal with like SCORING!!!!!

Right now Montreal is averaging around 2.5 goals per game, but that stat is very misleading. Montreal often only scores 1 goal per game, I guess they expect Price to put up 82 shut outs this year and win every game 1-0. And the second goal they score usually comes in the dying seconds of the game with the goaltender pulled. They simply have too many issues on the ice to effectively initiate a game plan.

Off the ice there is a multitude of problems, even as deep as their scouting. Montreal is notorious for completely missing the boat on great players in the draft. If my memory serves correctly, before Louis Leblanc played his first NHL game last month, the last draft pick that Montreal had that actually played in the NHL was Carey Price! Who is doing the scouting? Why are we not bringing up players through the farm system? Gauthier will have some serious problems to address come February when the trade deadline comes. I wouldn't be surprised if some big names on the Canadiens get let go in lieu of some draft choices.

I'm with you Paul but apparently there are more than just a few 'lunatics in Quebec'...check out this article...crazy situation...

Quebec Culture Minister Christine St-Pierre. "The Montreal Canadiens are an institution and the coach must communicate In the language of the massive majority of its Quebec fans," she told The Canadian Press on Monday.

Re: NHL '11-'12 BS thread

The language debate cracks me up. So they want a francophone coach..... well they had Therrian, fired him and he led the Penguins to their first Stanley Cup appearance since 1992. They had Julien, let him go and he led the Bruins to their first cup in 39 years. And if they really want to get picky, they should find a coach that speaks french but cant read or write (ala Demers) maybe that might help them out. Their captain is American, and their top players are not even North American, the Quebec government needs to get over themselves.

Canada vs US tomorrow night at the World jrs - should be a good one!
I care deeply for our American neighbours but I still hope we kick their butt when it comes to sports ;o) most of the games so far have been one-sided so I'm looking forward to a good game tomorrow night...may the best team win (hopefully that's us - Canada that is ;o)
