Steve and Joe please don't sing!

i have to admit i love vai and satriani as musicians, but as much as i love em', i hate their singing, slightly embarassing i think! Hope they will be none of it in the future. Sorry to any fans for this insult. Please share your views here

Re: Steve and Joe please don't sing!

I'd rather hear Steve & Joe sing than Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Chryssie Hynde, Kurt Cobain or Mick Jagger...and none of them are guitar virtuosos....just singers (and possibly rhythm guitarists).

Sure they're not great singers, but they sure ain't the worst! And at least there's a gutiar solo here or there to break up the vocals.

Hey, it could be worse, have you ever heard Yngwie? Makes my damn skin crawl...I think Steve and Satch would agree...

Except all the people you listed put their heart and soul into it. That's why they're good. It's all in how you say it. That's why I think Steve and Satch aren't good singers. When they sing, they look uncomfortable and they don't really look like they're enjoying themselves. Although, Steve did a pretty good job on Little Wing, IMHO.

I think we can all savely agree on that we ALL rather hear Steve and Joe (even together) than Britney . Am I right or am I right?

Yeah, "I Believe" sounds right, if not spectacular. The vocal definitely fits the song.

"I Believe" is my favorite vocal song by Satch!!

I love that song

I also agree that Vai does a very good job on the "Jimi" covers.

I've heard a LOT worse singing from current-era vocalists. I think they realize that singing's not their forte. I really don't mind Joe's voice on something like "Lifestyle." Its not like he's doing any Queensryche covers!

Re: Steve and Joe please don't sing!

When i saw him perform last march, Steve actually said 'The bad news is that I'm going to sing now'.

They know they're not singers...but their art requires singing in certain spots in order for them to fully express their thoughts/feelings.

Listen to those "cookie monster" vocal bands...that's godawful sh!t!

Re: Steve and Joe please don't sing!

when it comes to the blues, i dont think super singing skills are neccessary...so give props to Joe..but his last album didnt have any due to comments like this i guess.. I think Big Bad Moon was sung well...as for Vai ... ill just say hes good enough to do whatever he wants...you dont have to buy it, filling an album sometimes leaves room for an experiment or 2

You make a very good point. I can't stand those cookie monster co-called vocals. I actually like Steve's vocals, though I'd rather hear him play guitar.

I think it's kind of funny, regarding the cookie monster vocalists. I was reading an interview with Trivium, and the singer was saying the reason he screamed on the earlier albums was because he was going through puberty and couldn't sing because his voice would crack. So he did the cookie monster scream thing. So now whenever I'm watching HeadBangers Ball (recorded on my DVR so I can FFD past the crappy screaming bands) and I see one of those stupid cookie monster screamers I think, yep another kid going through puberty. I laugh then FFD past it.
