Yngwie was actually a lot taller in person than I thought he would be.

I guess I'm good friends with a few famous people...

I haven't met anyone important, really. I did live next door to William Floyd for a few months. He used to play fullback for the '49ers, and helped them win Super Bowl XXIX. He was going to play for the Titans, but he got cut before the season started. His son was cool, too.

Re: The official Name Dropping thread.

I meet everyone who comes to Chile, especially Ibanez artists.

However, definetely the most memorable was a little "inconvenient" we had with Satriani's tour manager during G3 2005. I'm not allowed to give details, but I will say I almost punched the old fart (TOTAL *******), but most likely my GF would have lost her job.

Re: The official Name Dropping thread.

I was briefly the Artist Rep for Washburn around 2000, so I met a few people then obviously. Satriani and Stu were my personal favorites since I am a big fan. But a lot of the artists were great. Often, the ones who were more successful (Dimebag, Paul Stanley) were often less of a pain then the ones who were trying to make at. Paul Stanley was the most professional-nice guy and works like a CEO.

And my Aunt is Jaclyn Smith of Charlie's Angels fame!

Re: The official Name Dropping thread.

I used to haul equipment off of trucks at Hammerjacks in Baltimore back in the glory days of shred and hair metal (1979 to 1986). The pay sucked, but the beer was free and the "fringe benefits" were always top shelf. I also helped the lighting crew chief and sound techs on occasion when the regulars were out sick or too stoned to come to work. I had a regular day job that paid twice what the Day Manager made at Hammers, so I was only available nights and weekends.

It would be easier to name the bands I didn't work with. The list is probably 200 - 300 names long.

I cried the day they bulldozed Hammerjacks to build Ravens Stadium and the light rail extension.

My one "close tie" to a guitar hero was with Steve Vai. My daughter donated a Squier Strat to Steve's Make a Noise Foundation. Most of my dealings were with Mikey, but he emaled that Steve was grateful for my daughter's gift. He left 2 after show passes for the "meet and greet" at the G3 '03 in DC. I took my daughter and we had a great time. She was about 14 at the time.

Re: The official Name Dropping thread.

I did some publicity work last year with Jerome "The Bus" Bettis in Philadelphia when I was living in the States, spent the entire day with him going around the local TV and radio stations trying to promote asthma awareness.

He's a very funny down to earth guy, and love's his Philly cheese steaks as I found out. Women were also coming on to him like a mofo, it was crazy, he could get any action he wanted man, they were just dropping at his feet. We also had some autograph collectors following us around town, and it got a bit too much, so we called in the cops and got a police escort around town, full sirens blazing and stuff. So I was in the back of an SUV with the Bus getting driven around Philly like we were President, it was a cool day!
