Vai using an Evolution Bridge on his BRMR?

Correct me if I'm wrong guys, but after watching a few minutes of Steve's new DVD, Where the Wild Things Are, I noticed that his BRMR with "Bo" written on the face seemed to have an Evolution bridge pickup installed on it. I am not very sure about this, since I was judging solely on the physical appearance of the pickup (I bought a pair of DP158/DP159 Evolution neck and bridge pickups a while back, and they pretty much looked identical to my set).

I almost 90% sure it was either an Evo bridge. Or maybe he had the Evo 2 on, if they were visually identical (I haven't seen a real Evo 2 bridge pickup yet by the way so maybe the two pickups would be designed to look like each other?)

That's just not true. Most of what Steve uses is right off the production line, and even most of the prototype Jems with different finishes and stuff start life as production-line bodies and necks from Fujigen in Japan before being modded by LACS. I think it's only the really different stuff (RDNZL for example) that would be made from scratch by LACS. And even then, probably with a Japanese neck more often than not.

Steve told me a few years ago, before the BRMR was released, that they were working on a different pickup for it but if they didn't work it out in time it would most likely come with Evolutions. As we all know it was eventually released with Breeds, but I guess it's entirely likely that Bo could have an Evolution, or even this prototype pickup they were working on, but good luck telling an Evolution, Evolution 2 and Breed apart on looks.

Perhaps Mikey can clarify if he's around, but I believe that even Evo was an early production-line Jem7VWH (after all, Ibanez must start making the guitars long before the actual launch) rather than an LACS proto?

Re: Vai using an Evolution Bridge on his BRMR?

Petie, the reason why I was asking this was because I remember that the BRMR came out with Breeds installed in it, being a basswood guitar. I do know what Breeds look like, they have bigger polepieces on them, while Evolutions have smaller ones. I was wondering maybe I got the Evo bridge and Evo 2 mixed up?

Yes, I'm sure MOST of Steve's guitars start life as parts made in Japan, just as I'm sure the really out there stuff (such as the 3-neck guitar and the 2-neck acoustic electric) is made LACS, like I said in my post. Did you even read what I wrote?

And also, Sims don't build the necks from scratch, they modify them.
