what started you or why did you start playing guitar

so folks, i'm sure someone may have asked this in the past but its time to show why it happened. I'll give my reason when someone elses reason is as oddball as mine! I'm curious how we all got to where we are. It should make interesting reading! This applies to everyone! yes.... that means you too!

It's a culmination of two or three things:
1. Wanting to be able to play better than my dad, which didn't take long
2. Listening to and enjoying my dad's Satch CDs in the car
3. The Sum41 video for In Too Deep, where Dave rises up out of the pool with the PRS doing that triplet lick.

My father always loved music, mainly slow samba and bossa nova. He never had any musical training but he had a perfect rhythmic sense and also a good ear. Fortunately I inherited it from him. As he noticed this, when I was 7 he gave me an acoustic guitar and I took some basic lessons (the guitar was HUGE to my hands, I remember this). I became fascinated with that. A short time later, I started on classical and flamenco stuff on the guitar (Bach, Villa-Lobos, etc). That's why my roots are on classical music. Then at 14 I switched to electric guitar.

i wanted to show up those losers who started thinking they are "Gods" of real guitar when they were bragging about that stupid plastic videogame.

i won't say the name because i'm so disgusted by the idiots who think they can go over to electric guitar and play whatever song they just "clicked".
also, i wanted to play drums, i was always fascinated watching rick allen
but my mom got me a guitar instead. which i enjoy much more

Seeing The Beatles on Ed Sullivan in 1964. I was two and a half, and I was hooked. I started asking for a guitar before the first song was over, and never looked back

1. My trumpet was stolen.
2. Guitar is cool.
3. Cheaper and more productive than streetracing in Harnett co.
4. Mom's cousin played for Novo Combo
5. Everyone else I knew who played seemed weird.
6. Too many keys on piano.
7. Idle hands....
8. Noise is inherently better than silence.
9. Singing is not my strongest asset.
10. Those acoustic lessons from ages 6-9 gave me a little head start.

2 reasons i started playing guitar.watching yngwie malmsteen's heaven tonight solo (still blows me away) this was on the chart show,can any of the uk lads rememer the chart show from the late 80's.also jake e lee's solo from the video ultimate ozzy AWSOME.

Hearing Randy Rhoads did it for me. The solo at the end of Revelation, Mother Earth still gives me chills.

My friend played guitar he showed how to play brain stew green day and it went from there and i lurned to play guitar from lurning silverchair songs.
