Re: Your first REAL song...

Run to the Hills by Iron Maiden, 2002. Took me about 2 weeks to get used to power chords and get the horse-trot rhythm. I think I learnt the solo (badly) about a year later. I played that song so much when I first got my guitar and for my first band that I'm now sick of it.

Re: Your first REAL song...

I learned a lot of parts to real songs, but Breaking the law was probably the first for me to nail all the way through.

I'm dating myself as well, but a lot of early Priest and Sabbath songs had fairly simple rhythms that weren't too hard to follow along with.

It wasn't until later that I discovered a lot of the intricacies of those songs and learned I'd been playing them wrong for years.

First song all the way through for me was Metallica's 'Where ever I may Roam' that would of been in early 1993 time (was in Guitar for the practising musician magazine)
I learned the Bob Dylan version, then later on worked out the GnR one from that.

Re: Your first REAL song...

First song I learned from a music teacher was "And I Love Her" by The Beatles. First song I learned on my own was either "Hole In My Life" or "Can't Stand Losing You" by The Police.
