Re: Best guitarists nobody has ever heard of
I agree Thordendal is excellent, his solo album is excellent, its one song but its broken down into 30 or so tracks so the listener can easily find their favourite riff, solo, verse, chorus etc...
His stuff is excellent, as is Meshuggahs.
Definitely worth a listen

Re: Best guitarists nobody has ever heard of
Stephen King (not the lame author) is a monster acoustic player, but the best player nobody ever heard of is probably some guy living in a cave somewhere, at least one person has heard of all these other guys.

Jeff Stiles. He makes
playing guitar
look effortless. Hopefully, he'll have a record deal happening in the next year.

hmmmm, I've to say that he's outstanding...
of course, having his videos on the net helps a lot... It's interesting that he loves to change the left hand position so often, with a range of even eight or nine frets, to escape from the usual boxed scales... very nice...

Make that another. Guthrie is just amazing! I bought both DVDs from Tone Merchants, and they are phenomenal.
Another great guitarist who has already been mentioned in this thread is Serj:
