Best guitarists nobody has ever heard of
Dave and the rest of you
Just wondering if any of you care to share the names of any unknowns or relative unknowns, up and commers etc. whom you have seen/heard play and found the sound refreshing.
I guess I will go out on a limb and start the list with
Dave Weiner
and Eric Sardinas. Most hardcore guitarists and guitar fans know who they are, but not too many mainstream music fans do.
Lets try to keep the old Srapnel Records shredders off this list.

If you've never heard Ron Jarzombek of Watchtower and Spastic Ink, be sure to check out his website:
www.spasticink.com
. He's an incredible guitar player.

Re: Best guitarists nobody has ever heard of
As a matter of opinion I'd say Buckethead was pretty under-ground and unknown in the UK at the moment (where I am) and his flexibility in playing such a wide range of styles and doing each one so well would have to make me say he is probably the best guitarist I have ever seen, or atleast within my top 3 favourites.
I know you said to keep the shredders off the list, but I consider him to be one of these guys who shreds when the time call for it and not constantly. If you listen to the albums "Population Override", "Cuckoo Clocks Of Hell" and "Electric Tears" in quick succession you'll know what I'm talking about.
Theres probably even less known guitarists out there who would blow me away equally, but BH springs to mind right now.

sorry! couldn't resist!
I found this Bruce Mathiske guy a couple of weeks back, a cool aussie folky-type:
http://www.abc.net.au/southwestwa/stories/s1351931.htm
and also Glen Tilbrook, they guy from Squeeze, perhaps a little less known in the states, is an amazing acoustic guitarist- I saw him do the most intense cover of Voodoo Child on a dreadnought with cool solos and improv

Re: Best guitarists nobody has ever heard of
Let me introduce to you the dutch representatives (>>opening curtain<<):
Marcel Coenen
-
http://www.marcelcoenen.com
Ex. Lemur Voice, Speedica, Fifth currently playing in 'Sun Caged' (Progmetal whooot), 'Stormrider' (oldskool metal a la Megadeth etc.) and 'Time Machine' (Satriani tribute band). A great musician (good shredder too btw), if you check his website, be sure to check the media section with lots of stuff in it.
Joop Wolters
-
http://www.joopwolters.com
Ex. Elysion and still playing in 'Arabesque', session guitarist too. Check out his website to discover that this guy is an absolute monster on the guitar. Lots of media on his website too, be sure to check his samples.
Both Marcel and Joop appear on a few 'various artists' cd's, including the '
shawn lane
remembered' one.
Then there are a few 'guitar-forum-freaks'
of which you probrably know the first one:
Boudewijn de Koning
Technically perfect, but also a great composer (check the ballad). I don't know in which band(s) he plays, doesn't have a website either.:
Here's a few things of Boudewijn:
http://users.pandora.be/Burhan/data/presto.mp3
- Arps at 200mph!
http://users.pandora.be/Burhan/data/boudewijn.mp3
- A very nice ballad, a typical case of a 'repeater'
Robbert van den Hanenberg
Session guitarist and guitarist of coverband MXL, has a very typical vibrato and an amazing arpeggio-tap-technique. But of course has a great musical mind too. His tone is very distinguishing too, it's sometimes described as 'birds flying out of the guitar':
http://www.digitalsoundplanet.com/Me...08094_proj.mp3
- A ballad
http://www.georgebellas.com/Recordin...tHanenberg.mp3
- Neoclassical song
http://www.digitalsoundplanet.com/Me...09388_proj.mp3
- A blues jam
http://www.digitalsoundplanet.com/Me...09380_proj.mp3
- Etude
http://www.undergrounduniverse.com/b...ll.dimebag.mp3
- 'Farewell Dimebag' a tribute, also with
Chris Brooks
.
Ok, of course I forgot 50 people but that's it for now
