Concert Review - Dave with Steve Vai - Atlanta 3/19/05

Four incredible guitar players on one stage (Vai, McAlpine, Weiner, and Sardinas). It was an incredible experience to watch them play. It was also Billy Sheehan's birthday. The show lasted about 4 hours, including Eric Saridnas' opening. The sound in the venue was close to perfect and everyone's playing seemed flawless.

Although he was backing up Vai for most of the night and even playing the electric sitar on some songs, Dave also got a chance to display some of his own chops.

Dave has a mature sense of the instrument, and displays the true skills of a virtuoso to be. While his live playing has just about reached that level, his ability to capture audiences remains the test. I am certain that when given the chance to take center stage Dave will shine as bright or brighter than many guitar heroes of the past and present generation.

If anyone has the chance to see Dave with Vai and Dave on the Real Illusions tour, go see them. I guarantee you, it is the best show on the road for guitar fans today.

I saw Dave on the 22nd in Winston-Salem stop, a hole in the wall place, but the audience was very close to the band. I hadn't the chance to see Vai again for 13 years, so I never saw Dave live before.

This is the MUST SEE show of the year!! If I had the time, I'd see their Phili & Baltimore shows too! 4 hours of bliss!

The show opened up with some nice heavy, thundering 7-string guitar & out popped Dave! He sounded awesome! When he got his spot to perform his own song, I was floored. I knew he was good, but now I was a complete fan! While backing Vai, you could tell he had excellent ability, maturity, and restraint. He certainly held his own in the band. His prescence was really good, and you could tell he was enjoying the performance as much as we were.

There were so many fantastic things about the show I'd love to voice, but will contain myself for those yet to see the performance. My only regret is not affording the EVO premium package.

The next day I ordered Dave's Album, and await it's arrival!! Thanks Dave for the excellent show!

Save your quarters and do it next time. We had a ton of fun and made some new friends. You couldn't help but... the Jacksonville venue was tiny, so it was packed tight.
