Country-ish sound

Hi Dave, hi guys: please excuse me if this post seems a bit off the place, but is has to do with guitars and effects, I'm playing "Rain" from the ALC CD of Eric Johnson, it has a lot of clean guitar with a country sound, how could I get some coutry-ish flavor on my sound using pedals, in 1st instance a Telecaster would be a good choice, but mine is a Jem; I've been trying using a bit -just a bit- of chorus and tremolo, but it still sounds too pop to my taste.. any advice?? thanx i.a.

Tough to do this with pedals. The heart of the tele sound is due to its pickup configuration, and you can't do that really well with a Jem. Closest I've heard with that pickup combo is if you can wire one coil of the bridge pup with one coil from the neck IN SERIES. This partially overcomes the inherent weakness in split buckers.

Barring a wiring mod, use position 4 (middle & bridge) and live with the difference.
