Dave, How do you get.....

Dave, How did you get the Ibanez Custom 7 strings? Other than being endorsed by Ibanez, can the average guy like me get a Ibanez Custom guitar? Do they have a custom shop still? How does yours compare to the universe? I'm really on the fence for switching over to 7's and could use your opinion. I was also considering a John Petrucci music man 7 ' cause I like the volume controls out of the way and the trem looks interesting. Any other brands worth looking at? Thanks for the help!

Ibanez has a custom shop in LA but they only do work for endorsed artists.

My 7's are very different from the UV's. The necks are rounder and shaped a bit more to my hand, the body is contoured at the slope to my body (just thinner than usual), smaller frets, different pups, etc. But, the UV is a great 7 string. Can't go wrong with it other than the typical "Signature Series" assumptions.

The JP model is very nice as well. I haven't played them much, but the one I did play felt great. And other brands.. hmmm.. I think Schecter is the only other brand still making a 7. Try them all out and decide what's best for you.

You have no idea how much I envy you, Dave. Playing with Vai, endorsed by Ibanez...

Schecter and ESP both have 7 strings which are awesome value for money (if you like EMGs, you definitely need to check out the LTD Viper-7).

Guys, don't forget Carvin! They're the only company who can bring you customized options for the price of an offshore model. You can get a US-made and customized 7-string for roughly $900! I have the DC-727c and it's the best 7 string guitar among my seven 7-strings (I have an Ibanez, ESP, Jackson, Washburn, Peavey and a Dean).
