Dave,
I first saw you on the Vai live from the Astoria DVD. I had never heard of you.
I got the DVD in December 2004, and then I find out that Steve Vai was going to be on tour, with a stop at the House of Blues in Orlando. I had to be there, and I was there. Well I watched the DVD over and over. First of all I can't believe that two of my four favorite guitarists are performing on the same stage together and in the same band, Tony Mac, and Steve Vai. I couldn't wait until concert day March 16. Watching that DVD over and over got me so psyched up. But at the same time, every time that I watched, my ears kept catching Dave Weiners in the pocket licks. As we use to say back in the 80's, Dave you are one "baddd cat". Not only was I now looking forward to seeing this awesome all-star band of MacAlpine, Vai, and Sheehan, but now I was looking forward to seeing this "new guy to me"
Dave Weiner. When we were waiting in line to get into the concert, you could hear people talking about Dave Weiner. When we were waiting for the stage change after Eric Sardinas performed, you could hear people talking about "Dave Weiner, Dave Weiner". In the crowd you were hearing either Dave Weiner or Thomas Nordegg references. To jump ahead, I just want to say that Dave, you guys "rocked the house" that night. Your solo was awesome. I was hoping that you were going to do the one that you did on the Astorida DVD. I left that show mesmerized. I'm in the same room breathing the same air with Tony Mac, Steve, and Billy...And you Dave

.
That was my first Steve Vai show, and it has to be the #1 all time on my personal list. And this goes back to the "in the round" Def Leppard days when I was a stagehand in college (FSU) at the civic center in Tallahassee, FL. A week after the concert I found the G3 Denver DVD. Dave you were smooth in that one too. That was very cool with you fingering Steves 12 string on his
triple neck. By the way, I think that it was very cool to see your parents supporting you at the Orlando show. When you really look at it, they probably played a gigantic role in you getting to where you are today.
We had seen that "older" couple up there during the Sardinas opening, but we just couldn't figure it out. Then Steve introduced them which was very, very cool. At any rate, Dave I want to let you know that you have a new fan. I heard some of the tracks from your album on "Favored Nations" radio. I will be purchasing the album this week. Not that it matters to me Dave, but I am one of Tony Macs, and Steves Black fans. I have even turned a friend of mine who is like a brother to me on to Steve's latest CD, "Reflections". And being Funk fans as we both are, he heard Steve's "Firewall" and immediately got into it saying "Man, that's Rock-Funk". As Steve said at the show, "we're all family right"? Keep "rockin' in the free world" Dave and I hope to see you live again. God be with you...Peace...
