New 7 string

Just an update if any of you gear-heads care..

After a meeting with Ibanez, we've made some changes to the 7-string strat. It can't be made the way I wanted it to be.. Ibanez could have done it b/c they can do anything at the LACS, but it wouldn't have been the best instrument it can be with the design I had in mind. So it's now going to be this:

-24-fret maple neck/fingerboard with M.O.P. binding (based off of my silver/orange guitar...that neck is the bomb).
-Standard RG body with custom contours to fit my body and arm and M.O.P. binding
-single/single/hum DiMarzio pickup configuration
-white perloid pickgaurd
-natural finish on the head
-string-thru body fixed trem
-locking tuners (I think)
-blue sunburst finish

It should be pretty cool and should be ready in a month or so. I'll have pics up on my site.

Dammit Dave that sounds awesome! Congrats! Any chance that will be available for us less unfortunate slobs?

While you got their ears,,tell em to kick it up a notch on the next model year on the 1527's I need some color,,,, bright colors and cool inlays.

Hey Allen.

Unfortunately these guitars aren't for mass-production. The 7 string market simply isn't there enough for Ibanez to start kicking out bolder 7-string ideas.

I try to design my 7 strings with cool options and colors that are still tasteful. Ibanez has done a good job at that with their production models, but I think their color choices can be a bit bland.

You can always have yours painted though!

Yeah that's true about getting it painted, I just enjoy out of the box color satisfaction.....
The 1527's are just awesome. I've been a huge Jem/UV fan and it was hard for me to admit that the 1527 with the prestige neck and new trem kicked my old UV777gr's arse.
I only bought as a back up to my UV,,, now my UV is the back up to my RG. Makes me sad yet very excited to have something that isn't signature and that I can customize without being hunted down by jem-heads....

Seems nice dude! Not sure about the perloid pickguard (just hope it won't look too strat-like...) but I can't say anything until you have it.

I'm crossing my fingers!

Hey Zero.

This one is supposed to be pretty close to a strat (even though we had to deviate from the original ideas greatly), so I actually hope it looks very strat-like But it'll still have the overall Ibanez look.

I have a '97 Blazer re-issue, and think a 7 string version would be cool. Would be different from all those RG7's out there, especially that custom Korn strat looking RG7...... oh well an RG is still a badass guitar.

Hmm, seems to me like a 7-string Andy Timmons-type strat! Sounds cool, probably looks cooler, Dave! One question, why ditch the floyd rose?

I'm ditching the floyd on this one because I wanted more of a no-frills guitar. I'm also a bit tired of breaking strings and having to reach for another guitar. I'd like to at least be able to finish out a song with the guitar still in tune even if a break occurs.

Very true. I saw Vai himself break a string in that Ibanez Anniversary gig w/ Gilbert & Timmons. My, even gods like you & stevie fall to such misfortune! When Andy Timmons came here for a clinic, he told us that he prefers Wilkinsons or some vintage tremolo system because in his opinion, locking units tend to rob some of the guitar's tone. Do you agree with this observation, Dave?

wooooooow!!!

Nice guitars Dave... I really love that cherry red 7 string. You have great taste for colors... even that green one... and I´m not that fond of the color green.

Thank you.

I'll have pics of the new one up very soon.

It's weird, but that blue/green one gets a lot of attention. You may even see similar colors on a few other endorsees guitars in the near future *wink*
