Q for Dave : Learning Tunes For The Tour

Hi Dave,

I was wondering how you go about learning the concert sets for the Vai tours. When Vai introduced you in Az, he mentioned you were the one that also showed him guitar parts he had forgotten how to play. As complicated as Vai's compositions are, I'm wondering how do YOU go about learning the material. Do you use Transkribe! SW or the Amazing Slow Downer SW or does Vai provide the band with charts with basic outlines of the songs?

I really like the look of your new guitar. I personally never cared much for tremolo bars on my guitars. I never quite got the hang of them.....

Long live 7 strings!

Re: Q for Dave : Learning Tunes For The Tour

I learn the songs mostly by ear. If there's a crazy riff, I'll slow it down in protools to get it right. To make things go faster during rehearsals, I learn my parts and most of the other guitar parts so that if there is a question, I already have an idea of what the answer is. Just being well prepared.
