Recording in the middle of nowhere!

Ok people I need your insight. I am looking for a unit that I can take to a campground that I can plug my guitar up to and record to at least 4 tracks but would like 8. With effects, programable drum tracks and would be cool to have bass tracks also. Need to be able to export wavs. to PC via USB. Any body have any experience with any of these units and which one is best?

Well, if you have AC you have lots of options, so I'll assume you meant battery power and didn't want to get a deep cell battery & power invertor...

Fostex has a little 8 track for $300 that seems to fit the bill; records on smart media cards. The smaller pocket studios from Zoom, Korg, and Tascam will work too, but they're only 4 tracks.

My suggestion is get an iBook or Powerbook and an Mbox. Also get Reason, and Guitar Rig or Amplitube and you're set.

That is what I would like to do but....

Hey Dave,
I was going to do just that because my home studio is ProTools LE and I have Reason, Waves plugins, and all the others. However I am on Windows XP on all my PC's and my laptop is an HP an it just so happens that ProTools will not run on my chipset . So I am force to spend more or find something else. As someone who has made a major investment in gear, you know how expense this all gets and I am no rich dude by any means. So it looks like I am going to settle for something else which brings me back to the beginning. But I do thank you for your responce. It is very refreshing to have someone like yourself who is willing to spend time with your fans, many could care less. By the way, if I use the pick that's coming with my CD will I play better!

If an Mbox won't work, and all you want it for is demo work while on the road, get something cheap and simple like the entry-level Cubase or something.
