Re: Tour Diary Responses- Vai: Real Illusions 2005 - Europe

2 Weeks and 3 days till the London show. Can't believe the Astoria London show was like 4 years ago now, seems like yesterday. That show was awesome as I was front row and on DVD hehe. This time I've got an Evo ticket, it's gonna rock even harder!

Only sucky thing is I'm going on my own and it's a bit of a trek. Any jemsiters going from Charing Cross please hold my hand and take me there, I've never been to the Hammersmith Apollo before and don't know the area so come and hold my hand for me haha.

Hey Dave,

I attended the show in Tilburg and your solo spot was great, any chance of doing a recording of that after you're done touring? (I know you're really busy but it was really awesome). Also your solo on My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Momma was the best solo in the entire jam, really refreshing playing! And the part where you played the indian sounding scale when Steve told you "You know Dave, that Dutch girl actually sounds like an Indian girl" during the accoustic set really cracked me up.

I hope you'll visit Holland some time when you tour with the Dave Weiner band!

Thank you for a wonderful evening,

Rochus

Hey guys.

Glad you're digging the new solo spot. For those who haven't seen the show yet, I start off on the acoustic playing an excerpt from a piece I've been working on and then break into a bit of a clean piece on the electric. Then, I kick on the distortion and go into a piece that is definitely going to be on my next cd.

I wasn't sure how the acoustic to clean to distorted solo would be received but so far, everyone seems to be enjoying it. Thanks for the support!

no need to worry - you rock! i'm sorry i missed it
will you guys put out a video from this tour?
i was lucky to be pegged in the head by a pick on the last G3 tour at the HOB in Orlando. i picked it up thinking i was hit by debris and realized it was your pick with your website handwritten on it. thanks.
i didn't get to meet you after the show (i met everyone else) but i at least had a souvenier from the show from you.
looking forward to seeing you play again. i watch the Live @ Astoria fairly regularly and never tire of it - although the camera guys should have been shot

Nah, Steve didn't have anyone go over the "shooting plans" for the show. He says as much on the commentary track.

My friend's band has had the same problem. You really need folks that know the songs and what member of the band to focus on.

Vai should have a show where they give control of the cameras to the fans and let them film it a la the Bon Jovi "Bad Medicine" video. That was pretty cool.

Plus, if you give camera passes to the fans, they could bring their own digital video cameras and give the tapes to Vai afterwards. Then they could get a special T-shirt that says "I filmed Vai's new DVD and all I got was this shirt".

Hi Dave!

I am a 17 year old norwegian fan of you, steve and tony. i had bought ticket to steve`s show but they did not let me in because i am 6months to young but a friend of mine bought your CD for me, its really great!! I hope you and the rest of Steve Vai band will come to norway again soon, cause i have been dreaming of seeing you live for a very long time. i play the guitar and practise several hours every day and you guys are my heroes! It just makes me so sad that i could not watch your show when you were here in Norway...
I think you are a great guitar player with a lots of talent!

Re: Tour Diary Responses- Vai: Real Illusions 2005 - Europe

Hey Dave ! Saw you guys in Oslo yesterday. amazing show! Your solo spot was great, and it started out soo nice with the acoustic part, but when billy and jeremy entered, all I could hear was the distorted and harsh soundig bass that just swallowed your notes. Billy's such a great player, but the sound was screwed man! It cant be like this every night can it ? Anyway... It cold've been better if you werent panned so far right.

Oh and you did a great job backing up vai on freak show excess !!
Hope to see you and your new band live someday.
