Here's a poll for you. For this tour, I'm thinking of wearing a cool suit on stage instead of just jeans and a shirt like I've worn for the last few tours. Vote for what you think the best option for stage clothes is.

simple answer: Whatever you like !

Maybe a suit with a couple of extra robotic arms for freak show excess ?

Plain and simple... it's about the music.

I think you should wear a "cool suit" or something. I thought it was almost disrespectful when I saw you wearing a t-shirt and jeans on stage with Vai. You are very privileged to be on stage with such a legend and the least you could do is not look like a bum.

i don't think you looked like a bum and i also would think you don't want to "upstage" Steve's wardrobe either. that wouldn't be good.

Re: Tour Diary Responses- Vai: Real Illusions 2005 - Europe

Wouldn't a suit be hot on stage? Stylish, though. Perhaps a nice breathable plain shirt under the jacket. Nike makes great athletic shirts (they call them "Dri-Fit") that have a shimmer to them and are extremely lightweight. They look great with a suit jacket and pants; I've worn that to semi-formal parties in the recent past and been well complimented for the look. I also wear those types of shirts on stage and they're so light, I never sweat in them. I'm a simple guy, on stage, just a pair of shorts and an Under Armour style tee. Costume changes would be too much work for me... props to Steve for it, and it suits his style well... but not my bag.

I liked what he did on the "Live at the Astoria" DVD with the costume changes and etc. gave the show an extra spark .

My suit wouldn't be as "business" as the Lifeson pic. It'd be black, striped with a NON-white shirt underneath. We'll see.

Glad to hear it - the whole "new romantics" image just wouldn't quite work!

Re: Tour Diary Responses- Vai: Real Illusions 2005 - Europe

dave, just curious... how do you get around learning songs for a vai tour ? Does he give you a pile of notes, do you listen to the tracks or does he teach you the parts on rehersal ? Also wondering if you know any vai tracks besides the parts you're playing.. ? in case, which one(s) ?
