G3 is indeed
Joe Satriani
's thing.

I've always believed that Joe and Steve consult each other and their bands and stuff and see who they want (or if they agree) or something like that
however thats just me lol

Well in my humble opinion , I would say Mattias IA Eklundh would be pretty freaky in a G3 ...
I would say
Marcel Coenen
in a G3 would be cool ...

There are some great players out there, a lot of which have been mentioned, but their music just isn't as popular as Vai's or Satriani's.
Realistically I'd say there needs to be an act with a similar amount of pulling power as Steve & Joe in order to fill the larger venues for G3.
We all know and (insert appropriate words) Love/Respect/are insanely Jealous of/ Dave Weiner because without a doubt he is an excellent guitar player, and is currently in the best guitar based band on the planet. Plus we would all like to have his job! But as he says himself, he is not a "G".
Not yet anyway

I'll do it.. hehe.. j/k.
I'd really like to see Gilbert actually.
Petrucci, Gilbert, Vai, Satch, Nuno etc. have always seemed like "G3" style guitarists.. but I deffinatly feel Paul would make a great addition to the next G3 tour.

Paul Gilbert
without a doubt for me. He would fit in so perfectly.
If you're still reading this thread, Dave, do you know if Satch has contacted Paul Gilbert about G3 before, or if he has considered him? Would be cool to know if it is likely to happen.

Paul Gilbert was in one of the G3 shows on the 2001/2002 tour with Petrucci...I think he played one show with them in LA or something...so I think Satch and Vai must be considering him.

I would have loved to see
Andy Timmons
as the third "G". His playing is amazing.

Nuno Bettencourt
was better in the 80's. Out of others, perhaps Ritchie Kotzen would be an interesting 3rd party?
Poor Eddie apparently can't even play well enough to be in G3 these days.
BTW I vote for Nuno next time out! Gilbert is too derivative of Vai/Satch and also Yngwie to offer much contrast.

well some (most) would have to admit the Yingway "hogged" the stage when playing the other guitarists....THE DVD proves this......otherwise the editor/producer/exec. producers of the DVD intentionally ONLY "caught" this footage and used it ONLY on the DVD..otherwise it seems that Yingway has the propensity to UPSTAGE others...????
