I can't see a guitar with this much finish work involved being priced below a VWH. the only way we would see this would be as a limited edition with a price tag similar to the DNA.

I was secretly hoping the chrome model to replace DBKs,
they being both similar style. Namm is starting in hours so
soon we'll get to know for sure, but if the chrome jem won't appear,
Vai and guys at the Ibanez booth will get to speak their
mouths dry why it isn't there :.(

Quote from Vai.com (MM)

The Mirror Jem has taken a lot of research to get the front right. It was going to be available, but Steve decided to hold off (after recording the commentary track) because he feels there is still work to be done on the mirror top to make it look just like the prototype

Is this why they decided to keep the 7DBK or was that a rumour in the first place?

I have no access to secret information, but I can promise you this:

If Steve and Ibanez can find a way to produce the mirrored concept in a manner that is predictable, reliable and profitable- they will. That's the beauty of capitalism

It seems pretty clear that the mirror jem would do well- the enthusiasm for the guitar is huge. If the concept is sellable- I'm confident they will.

If the guitar does come out I wonder if it will sell better with a fancy or a plain inlay...

Personally I never even considered the DBK because of it's inlay. It was too much like an RG. But then again the BSB had the same inlay and I would still love to own one of them.

Chrome is fancy and needs a fancy inlay!

Less than five months to go (I'm counting hours to the next chance to
harness the Horse, I wish summer namm would be here already!
I'm bit afraid though that instead of normal production model horsie
would become limited 50k celebration model.

This is straight from the Bad Horsie's mouth (I was at the Melbourne aftershow not even an hour ago):

The mirror-finish Jem has now been approved and will be released at January NAMM.

Steve told me he is currently working with Dimarzio on creating a new pickup for the mirror Jem but if they don't settle on anything in time they will just go with Evolutions. So if you've wondered what pickup is in his Bad Horsie mirrored guitars (he has three of them), the answer is: probably any number of prototypes as they zero in on the perfect new design.

Good stuff. Ibanez would have one year to work out the kinks w/ this axe/finish so lets hope it's not another last minute cancellation. IMHO Ibanez will need something spectacular like this at NAMM to offset the rest of the dreadful expected 2005 lineup... glen
