We're only halfway through 2004 and already the 2005 lineup is looking "dreadful"?

Yeah! Well the way Steve was talking it's all approved and ready to go into production and the only undecided factor is the pickups, and like he said, even not having them finished on time won't delay the release cos they'll just chuck in Evos. Wish I thought to ask him about the inlays.

The first prototype had chrome vine inlay before the neck was swapped for the Sims LED one.
Thomas said it was swapped just before the Astoria shows in 2001.

The mirror-finish Jem has now been approved and will be released at January NAMM.

Steve told me he is currently working with Dimarzio on creating a new pickup for the mirror Jem but if they don't settle on anything in time they will just go with Evolutions. So if you've wondered what pickup is in his Bad Horsie mirrored guitars (he has three of them), the answer is: probably any number of prototypes as they zero in on the perfect new design.
Did he say if it was going to be a limited production or anything?

He didn't say if it would be limited. I don't imagine it would be.

I think I'd like to see it with simple (maybe chrome) dot inlays - after all, Steve's present incarnation has dot inlays (albeit laser ones) and it would keep costs down.

Oh hell, it's probably the 50,000 jems sold thing Mikey was asking about.

well, it's not that long until January comes about, but it'll sure give me enough time to save up enough money to get it when it comes out. I sort of forgot about it, I was thinking of saving for a neck thru RG but if this thing really does hit the streets...I'll certainly be in line for one. And if Steve really said it's coming out, I guess that's the case. I hope they have the new pickups by then, it would be a nice addition...not that I don't like Evo's.

I just saw one of these at the sims LED stand at the music live show, with sustainer, lights, lazer in the head stock etc etc. Very nice

Click on this link to see Steve posing with what I assume is the production version of the guitar (after Mikey said the one in the background of that Euphoria pic was a production model) - no sustainer, and apparently simple dot inlays.

i can only guess at a street price
i'm going to have a hard time figuring out which guitars are to be sold if indeed this is one of the new offerings - i think they are still talking about a hard tail natural bad horsie also - hopefully w/ pyramid inlays.

Add $100 to the current 7D price and your guess will be spot on.

The DBK was the 555 MIJ replacement model in the USA. This is not a "DBK replacement" model. From day one i felt pricing above the VSBL (if that model remains in the USA who knows) seems quote probable and i've heard nothing to contradict that yet... glen

It says that the photoshoot is for Dimarzio, maybe the new pickups are ready. New finish, new sound.

No it doesn't. The photographer is Larry Dimarzio. Yes, it's the same guy who started the pickup company, but he is also a freelance photographer who has done a lot of work for Steve. The photo shoot was for Steve's new album.
