No it doesn't. The photographer is
Larry Dimarzio
. Yes, it's the same guy who started the pickup company, but he is also a freelance photographer who has done a lot of work for Steve. The photo shoot was for Steve's new album.
You know, you're right it does'nt say it's for Dimarzio, my bad. Sorry for being the 'vine of dis-information'.

Well, since the price is higher thant the VSBL, I dont plan to get one. A mirror finish doesnt sell me a 3000USD guitar anymore. I think its an interesting model though, probably the most interesting regualar jem model since the 7VWH (that I dont like BTW) was introdiced. The pricing seems a to be way off (asuming it will be around 2900 list price)
If they release it with a vine inlay, or pyramids, and if it is backrouted, I would consider it, but even with those features, I dont think I would buy it at that price point.
I have to see it in person though, it may be flashier than it seems.
A lot of people were expecting this guitar to be in the same price range as the DBK, so this pricing should be discouraging.
For the people who expected a detailed high end instrument the
dot inlays
and the
mirrored pickguard
could also be a turn down.
Kudos to Ibanez for releasing, at last, a new interesting jem. But at 3000USD, I just dont expect them to sell many ot them.

I predict LGM will be getting a lot of demand for mirrored vine inlays in 2005!

Kudos to Ibanez for moving for a very cool finish....it's nice to see. Ashame that they will use the run of the mill necks with dots.

With any luck the dots are little mirrors or something.
Also, anybody know if it's rear routed? Somebody speculated that earlier (it's a 77 after all).

Well, it's a mirrored pickguard not a clear one so we don't really know yet how it's routed.
As for the inlays, they may be more than just simple dots. I doubt they'd be LEDs, but it's likely they're mirrored or screwheads.
Speaking of screwheads, Ibanez should have put a new inlay and new pickups (if they are in fact Evolutions) in this guitar if they wanted to sell it at that high of a price, IMHO. Maybe Vai's getting bored with vines (he does get the final say in design afterall)? Fine, but he could at least throw us something new.
Looking through his guitar gallery I think it'd be cool to see a "Light Without Heat" inlay in chrome around the 12th fret if nothing else.

Steve told somebody here that he and Dimarzio have been working on a new pickup that might make it into the mirror top Jem. I guess we'll see.

Yeah, that was me, but if Mikey hadn't heard anything about it then I suspect they didn't get very far with a new pickup design.

I would like to add the disclaimer that I could be wrong.. but I'm pretty sure that Steve and DiMarzio haven't developed new pickups for this model. The reason I think this, is that Steve has been completely overloaded with other projects to spend time testing new pickups.

So to re-cap, sticking a mirror top and Prestige RG neck onto a DBK makes it over $1030 more expensive (7VSB llist -7DBK list) ..........
and some of you are still excited about it..........
rrrrriiiiight.
It
does
take all sorts.

Maybe before you begin really tormenting yourself over the assumed details, you should wait until I can get the exact specs
