...the thing is...the guitar got a sustainer!!
I remember reading an interview with steve, a few years ago, where he said he was working on this tour-de-force guitar. Maybe this is it?
Puh-lease make this a production model! A jem with a sustainer! For us mortals to play around with! How cool wouldnt that be!! I was thinking of replacing my dbk with a vsbl, with the new edge, but hearing such news about this superb jem...I'm tempted to wait a little longer...

Why would Ibanez spend the time and resources "perfecting" the process for a one-off model? Sounds like it's being seriously considered for production. If they couldn't make it work, they wouldn't put it on the market.

Sounds nice, if it's got binding and a black back. I'm curious as to whether it'll be equipped with a sustainer and Sims LEDs. I'd bet on the former, but wouldn't count on the latter. Hopefully they do something a little nicer than standard dots, though. Or leave the fretboard blank and let people do their own inlay if they want. A nice blank bound ebony fretboard and mirrored headstock would look really sweet on that guitar.

I suspect the inlay will be like when it left the Ibanez custom shop, i.e. a chrome vine

Chrome pyramids would be a better choice. What would be even better would be if they did both and let you pick. And while I'm dreaming...

I'm pretty sure that Ibanez headstock in the photos is likely to be Steve's.

Ahh, now i'm with it i thought it would be an effect for the headstock not an actual laser pointing out of the top. oh well free laser eye correction in the front two rows anyone???

better put my shades on.

Maybe, but that photo has been on the site for at least a couple years. I don't think Steve had BH2 that long ago. On a side note - notice on the Jem 'lights on' photo the hardware is off? Yet the 'lights off' photo has the hardware?

Thomas, Steve's guitar tech told me in person that the neck on the chrome jem had been changed in the first few days of December 2001.

Steve has two guitars with lasers in the headstock and SIMS LEDs (apart from the sparkle strat).

The shot on the SIMS website is actually a JEM7DBK. The laser in the headstock on that particular guitar pokes out a little bit. On the mirror-fronted Jem, it's recessed into the headstock.

Thought you'd be interested to know that

Why buy a new JEM for a sustainer when you can fit one to your current JEM?

because the routing and wiring isnt as easy as fernandes would lead you to beleive. It REQUIRES routing where as the sustainiac system usually does not. Most arent willing to hack a new 7vwh up to add a sustainer especially considering few luthiers have ever tried it

I think if jeremy or eddie or one of the guys started advertising sustainer mod I think the mod would become alot more popular. I know Ive seen one guitar that jeremy did I think it was a RG520 that had a sustainer in it.
