My guess would be that its far to involved to ever be a production model.

I agree with the last two posts. The chrome boy finishes were problematic. I don't know how much better the JS10's are holding up under comparable wear and tear. I think chrome guitars are beautiful but I can understand from a retail or manufacturers perspective the type of hassles the "average Joe" will give Ibanez if it's not at least as durable as a regular finish so it may not be worth getting into. It pains me to say it but the "maybe never" comment was quite reasonable.

A lot of people were unhappy with the higher price of the VSBL as in most cases gold-toned hardware, abalone, and ebony as found on the VWH usually add up to higher costs. I don't know what the average Jem-consumer would be on a price increase for a new finish such as chrome but probably not all that favorable. If steps can't be taken to add a chrome finish that equally as reliable as any other standard finish on a guitar at the same price point (or less), you open yourself to too many complaints to deal with. Then again, I just saw a guitar magazine cover with the Korn guys and one of them had a chromed 7-string. Hopefully they've figured something out.

BTW-I wouldn't bet on Summer NAMM. Has Ibanez ever introduced a new signature model (or option or finish on one) mid-year? I don't recall them doing this (at least with the JEM line).

Well as you may see elsewhere on Jemsite, Vai announced on the commentary track to his DVD that it would be released in Feb 2004. That commentary couldn't have been recorded more than a few months ago, and I don't know about turnaround time but I would imagine Ibanez were probably already beginning to build them at that time, if they were to have enough to ship by Feb, but we haven't heard anything definite from anyone apart from Steve and maybe I'm wrong so I would defer to Glen's answer too, until NAMM begins in about 20 hours.

VAI'S COMMENTARY IS INVALID .

At the time the Chrome Jem was "on" for production (ie. winter namm anouncement) but it's now "off. Apparently, the guitar has been rejected by either or both parties (ibanez or Vai). It could *possibly* reappear at a later date (no sooner than summer NAMM). It could be canned forever... time will tell. IMHO this would sell well, if priced at or below VWH level (no sustainer obviously).
