Chrome-looking JEM PHOTO - Vai Dimarzio Ad
Hey guys, in the new copy of Guitar World, there's a big full page ad for Dimarzio with Steve in it....and guess what he's holding? The
Chrome JEM
. Really big pic of it, and the inlays don't appear to be dots OR screwheads as most of us originally believed....they look like these reflective orbs.....and it appears to be Sustainer-equipped. *prays* Please God, (and Steve) let this become a production model!

If you do a search for the chrome jem threads you'll find that the inlay are SIMS LEDS and they are blue!
They were added early December last year.
Cheers

It must be the Ozzfest one, cuz I have the previous one, and there's no Vai related ad that I've seen.

Nope, not the Ozzfest issue. The August '02 issue with RHCP on the cover. Page 183, the DiMarzio ad.
By the way, lots of cool stuff in this ish. Vai does the 60 Minutes picks, big article on Satch, and Green Meanie is the subject of the Collector's Choice page. Oh yeah, and Satch is the poster child. Also good articles on Rush and Cantrell. Excellent issue!
Later,
G

Whoops, didn't know that about the LEDs....shows how much I have been keeping up...
And yep, it's the new issue with RHCP on the cover, and the issue is awesome....but does anyone else start to notice how it seems
Zakk Wylde
is starting to own and run this magazine? Or is it just me? I hope someone does get a scan, I'd love to use the ad as my wallpaper....

The guitar indeed has a sustainer in the
neck position
. You don't see it in the ad though. Since it is a DiMarzio ad, there are
DiMarzio pickups
in the neck and bridge positions. The sustainer switching is still shown, but the neck pickup is a DiMarzio humbucker, not the sustainer/ Fast Track combination that is actually part of the guitar.
Cheers,
Butch

Which is odd, since the Fast Track is a
DiMarzio pickup
too...

I had noticed that as well....I thought something didn't look right....that looks to be a
PAF Pro
in the neck if my memory serves me right....but I doubt Steve would have a new guitar that didn't have a Sustainer in it these days....he is truly the first and honestly ONLY guitar player who has turned that mechanism into a workable and (no pun intended) viable tool for music....
