Re: Js2prm

HDS said in another topic about aluminum finishes:
"It uses a tall solvent adhesive. BUT you dont paint this on wood. You cant make bare wood shiny. You have to start with a smooth surface to get mirror shine. Which means you can just paint right over your pre-existing finish and then clear over that.

So Ibanez would have started with a wood body painted it black, clear coated it and then spryed mirra chrome and clearcoated again, alla peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches."

I'm not going to push the panic button about the finish just yet. Apparently, there is a way to do it. Hopefully, Ibanez knows what HDS knows. If not, maybe HDS could finish them, since he's done it already!!

Re: Js2prm

The 2 have nothing to do with each other. This is not a "paint" and has no clearcoat.

Re: Js2prm

Well thats their problem, They cant think the finish is going to stay without one. Deepending on what they are using, aluminum its going to flake and your body 's acid is going to attack it. The only way I have been able to get it to work is by layering. I would have posted a pic but I messed up the finish lastnight. My gun clogged and mist so I have little bubbles in my poly =p ..oh teeny bubbles...

So know Im back to sanding....arrrg!

Re: Js2prm

Does this mean that the finish will behave like the original JS2? I thought that if Ibanez was using aluminum, it would've been more like a cap which would allow for the expansion and contraction of the wood based on its' environment.

If the finish is adhered to the wood, anybody getting one better set up a perfectly climate controlled room to store it in.

Re: Js2prm

Only time will tell. I'm making some assumptions based on what Mike told me, and that I doubt Ibanez is doing anything different with the production than they did with Joes.

yes,
thats why its $5200.

If i have a penny for each time i was asked for a chrome arm or a gold arm for that matter (on the jem7vwh) to fit an edge dirivative. i could get two of these. :-)

my guess (and it is just that) is that they have handled the process similar to the hollow ali fenders but sealed the two halves over the basswood body, then welded, ground and polished. this is the most obvious and bullet proof way. and still just a guess.

Re: Js2prm

Here's a thought for you, they use the original Edge to act as anode to the body, and the chrome bar as anode to the Edge trem. That makes the Edge both anode and cathode, when the bar is in and not. Nice thought. I don't know my "metal" so keep the fire to a minimum!

Re: Js2prm

er,

if the trem is both anode and cathode, doesn't that just make it neutrally charged?

Yes, and no. Depends on whether or not the bar is in place. With the bar in place, the bar is anode, and the Edge and body cathode. Without the bar, the Edge is anode, and the body cathode. So the Edge is both anode and cathode, just not at the same time.

Re: Js2prm

Yes, I made it! My ultimate goal!
Guitar as in wood and wire, or the more scientific version of it?

Oh, and I love angry men from the UK... I think they even got a mammel named after them.

Seriously, I'm sorry if I upset anyone. I would do it again, yes, but still I'm sorry.

Hug?
