The way I understand it is:

It's not a raffle, one person is getting paid (in the form of a Jem) for their essay. That person will be choosen at random, and doesn't even have to have the best essay.

Can't we enter an extra $10 to cover the rest of the cost?

I'd rather do that then have other people pay $25 and getr more chances, but it's just an idea anyway.

i haven't done the numbers to see if it'd add up, but it would require 100% unanimity. Just be patient. There are MANY who've been waiting a LOT longer than you have.

Thank you. I registered at another site recently and they started spamming me about some stupid contest they're running. They're getting filtered now and it's unlikely I'll ever buy anything from them. (They're a commercial site.)
