As a spin-off of stealthtastic's thread about how many hours a week we work, I'm starting this thread as a place to describe your job. I've found that, as much as I know many of you, I have no idea what you do for a living.....

I.E........ I've been a commercial and residential remodeling contractor for 16 years. Before that, I built new construction homes strictly as a framing carpenter.

My entire life has been spent in the building trades with the exception of a few years (1994-2000) as a casino dealer and table games supervisor.

I'm in preconstruction as an estimator for a contract glazing company. Long and short; I find out how much it's going to cost to put glass on buildings from small to very large. I've been fortunate enough to work on some of the largest projects in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties - including many you see on the skyline. Marlins and Dolphins stadiums were the most interesting. As was the New World Symphony building in Miami Beach. The contract value on some of the projects can be insane but the pay is okay. I went to school for computer science and would like to get back into programming one day. Before construction I worked as a programmer capturing tax roll data for First American for about six years in the 90's.

I also wrote a novel you can find here:

Working on another novel too and a serial.

My favorite job is husband and dad though. :)

Update: as of last week, I no longer work for the soul sucking, outsourcing, American job killing POS that is IBM (whose name was not mentioned). Got a job at a mid size independent oil company and am loving it. All of the headaches with the benefits!!! Gas Revenue Accountant is the current title. Expect more NGD's.

I work for Graco (not the stroller company, the other one). We are most known for higher end spray application for paint, foam insulation etc but also have our hand in many other products that move fluid. I am basically a glorified dock worker, I schedule outside service operations such as passivation and chrome plating for parts that we make in house. If you have been to Lowes or Home Depot lately you have probably seen our paint sprayers there.

Financial analyst, juggling a number of different responsibilities in the performance/analytics/relationship management/marketing/research space for a small but successful firm in the Boston area. I love the people I work with, and the work itself is both interesting and allows me the time and money to pursue passions like music outside work.

Professional violinist (teaching/recording/performing).
Classically trained at a conservatoire in London and been playing or teaching 5, 6 or 7 days a week ever since I left in 1998.
Also play the odd bit of guitar for shows a couple of times a year (We Will Rock You, Footloose, Grease, Return to the Forbidden Planet, Little Shop of Horrors... that kind of thing).

I have worked in the music business for a short time doing guitar repairs and had one actual paid studio gig (ONE.... woo hooo) I have worked as an auto mechanic and machinist the best gig there was restoring vintage Corvettes at the time I didn't realize how actually cool it was getting a Bloomington Gold on a car you did. I did however appreciate taking a $250,000 car out for a test drive and burning rubber all the way down the street (I guess I'm kind lucky I never piled up one of them, I'd chalk it up to being a good driver but nobody is going to buy that  )For the last 15 years or so I have worked in the bicycle business everything from a bike mechanic to a pro race mechanic warehouse manager service dept. manager to sales guy and Marketing guy for a pretty big Italian bike company at one point. I am currently working for the biggest component manufacturer who also owns a clothing company in inside sales here in CO

I'm a nighttime baker. I make all sorts of gluten related things. Anything you can think of that requires an oven to be made, I do it. Hating it though...

For fun and passion I'm interning at a small studio learning the ins and outs of the recording engineer life, hoping to take that further and eventually to become my career. I'm in love with placing mics and pressing the space bar so it seems like a perfect job haha

For my whole adult life (since 1988... you do the math!) I've been selling paints, coatings, and related products. I work for a local manufacturer in Michigan called O'Leary Paint. My job is mostly managerial stuff now, but I've just about done it all in paint stores.

I like it just fine... but there are days when I think I should just chuck the whole thing and open (or at least go to work for) a guitar store! Of course, then my wife would never see me!
