Hi Everyone,
I just purchased my 2nd Ibanez - I had one YEARS ago, but don't remember the model, but anyway, I fell in love with the feel of this neck and had to buy the ugly red guitar on Monday. When I was at the store, I wasn't crazy about the pups, and knew that was something that I could change out, so now I have been scouring the web looking for some ideal pups for this thing. I love Vai's sound, but couldn't justify the $2500 for a new Jem, so I got this as my "Entry Level" Ibanez and am considering putting in the Evolution pups. so as I was looking into them, I noticed that there are "F-spaced" ones and was wondering if anyone knew if and WHAT pups need to have the f-spaced on the RG770. Also, if anyone has done this to the RG770 reissue, I would love to hear some feedback as to how the sound is BETTER than the stock pups as well as which Evo's to put in there, thanks !!!!
I have a 1991 RG770FM with the orginal Pups (IBZUSA F4, C2, F2) and a RG770DX reissue with a Air Norton in the neck and a tone zone in the bridge...
When comparing the 2, the 770DX obviously has more output to where I have dial back the gain on my amp to compensate. I like personally like the combo of the air norton and the TZ.. Man I love my 770DX the neck is a wee bit thinner than my 91 770FM... super fast for shredding....
The stock pups are not bad at all IMO... I guess it really depends on what you are goin for...
I just recently got a RBM10 where I will be chaning out the stock pups with some EMG's (18V mod)... Now I will have quite a range of sounds between my guitars...

Sounds like a cool option - I was thinking about the Air Norton - and I agree - this is the thinnest neck I have ever had on a guitar in all my 35+ years of playing. I'm actually no so much a "shredder" as much as an instrumental rock guy - I was just running through some speed drills again and I'm flippin addicted to the neck on this guitar - it also has a great balance in my lap, as I spend most of my time teaching recording & practicing - also found out yesterday that this neck is even thinner than the Jems! damn. The stock pups are ok, looking for a bit more beef and bite. I also notice that I have to roll off the volume a bit and get an actual difference out of the tone of the guitar which I have never experienced before. I'm used to putting everything at "11" lmao.
I highly suggest taking a browse through the review section to gain insight to various pups--that's what it's there for. I have been a Tone Zone/ Air Norton freak right up until I dumped an Evolution set into mine.
I hate it when I spend like 30 minutes writing the most in-depth reviews ever and get logged out automatically.
So here's the short version:
Like someone from ET Guitars said, don't walk to get an Evo 2. Run! I have one in my RG550 and it's great for soloing and very tight and articulate for rhythm, TriAxis on Lead 1 Red kind of rhythm to give you an idea. Besides that, I love the black baseplate.
My package with 3 Evos and 1 True Velvet from Banjomikez should be here very soon. I'm having 2 Air Nortons and 1 Tone Zone replaced. Nothing wrong with the Air Nortons though, but the regular Evo neck seems to a better match for an Evo 2 or a regular Evo in the bridge.
I've recently sold 2 Breeds and took my beloved D Sonic to the post office 13 hours ago. The D Sonic is a great pickup as well, excellent for leads and crunch, but I don't have another guitar to install it.

I hear that brother - when I type something really long, I try to copy it on occasion
So, I'm not sure if the Evo 2 comes in a single coil, so I may end up just going with the Evo2's for the whole setup. I rarely play out live, so I'm mostly recording - looking at purchasing the Axe-FX as soon as I win the lottery.
