So I found out today that Ibanez now has a wizard III neck. I checked out the spec sheets from the Ibanez Wiki, and saw this:
Wizard II
Year: 2010
Scale: 648mm/25.5"
Nut Width: 43mm
Width at last fret: 58mm
Thickness at 1st fret: 19mm
Thickness at 12th fret: 21mm
Radius: 400mmR
and this:
Wizard III
Year: 2010
Scale: 648mm/25.5"
Nut Width: 43mm
Width at last fret: 58mm
Thickness at 1st fret: 19mm
Thickness at 12th fret: 21mm
Radius: 400mm
Generally, Wizard II necks have a 56mm width at last fret. I think last year though, they called the 58mm ones Wizard II also. They've also changed over to a barless nut. I'm sure that has something to do with the name change also. Do these new necks also have the volute?
It looks like all the necks on Jems & RGs are all 58mm...why is Ibanez forcing these wider necks on us? ...no wonder everyone likes the older Jems and RGs better - because the necks were more comfortable with 56mm & 57mm widths...you wouldn't think 1 or 2mm would make much of a difference but it does...
I think the nut on the new neck screws in but not through the neck like the older Wizard II necks. In other words, you don't see the bolt heads from the back of the neck.
I understand...it's just frustrating cuz they don't seem to offer any Jems or RGs without the 58mm necks - I've been looking on the Ibanez site and I can't find a single Jem or RG with a slimmer neck than that...
I've noticed the same. Big improvement over the previous neck shape, imho.
