My new RG1570 is on the way and should be here in about 2 weeks. My current plan for replacement pickups is:
Tone Zone (bridge)
Blue Velvet (mid)
Air Norton (neck)
What do you guys think? It won't be my only guitar. I'm planning to buy a more tone-oriented guitar in a few months (JS1200, Les Paul or PRS), so I want this one to be a bit more powerful. I'm not good enough to use EVO's.
Hey man, why aren't you good enough to use Evos? Evos might be unforgiving on mistakes and what not, but man, if you love the tone, get them! You can practice! I think this notion of yours is wrong... if you want them, go for it.
I wouldn't recommend putting the Air Zone in the neck. You'd be better off putting the Tone Zone in the neck and the Air Zone in the bridge if that's the kind of sound that you want. The Air Zone doesn't sound good at all in the neck position and even the Dimarzio Tech says that it's not a good idea. Personally, I'd go with either an Air Norton or a PAF Joe for the neck pickup.

I just installed an EVO last night and this thing ROCKS (got it from Eric's Guitars- Thanks!). I absolutely love the tone and I've tried everything. It really cuts through a mix and can also be fattened up real nice with tone control and EQ.
I was a little hesitant- wondering if my chops were godd enough and I was pleasantly suprised that I sounded good. I also like the idea that they will keep me honest. They provide me with a twofold incentive to practice a lot- 1) the tone makes me want to play and shred; 2) if I get sloppy, they'll let me know.

Ok, my RG1570 just came in today. Feels good, but sounds a little muddy compared to my old, cheap Ibanez EX360 (w/ FRED in bridge). It may just be that the stock pickups have a more modern sound. It's making me think twice about a TZ and Air Norton, which may sound too modern. Wondering about the Breeds.
i have rg2550 with breed neck and the rest the same as you stated in the first post , i love the breed sound in the neck and it works real well with the others.
I know . . . but I already have a FRED in my other guitar. And I may buy a JS1200 in the near future. I may as well go for a different sound with this one.
By the way, if I go with Breeds, can I get a Breed single-coil for the middle? I can't seem to find one on Dimarzio's website or any of the online stores.
dont quote me on this . not sure but i would say you cant buy the mid pickup , much like the evos they are guitar specific. again i may be wrong there?
Ok. So how noisy is the Blue Velvet versus a hum-canceling single coil? The stock middle pickup (S1) in my guitar must be hum-canceling as I don't hear anything.
Actually... when you have good grounding/shielding, the noise from yuor pups will be greatly minimised. In fact, a humbucker will emit more noise than the hum from a single coil, when there is proper shielding/grounding. Not to worry man. A good example is your S1 pup.
Anyway, you want your new guitar to be a bit more powerful right? Hahah.... how's X2N in bridge and Super 2 in neck sound?
Ya!!
Tone Zone or EVO Bridge, definately
Not Sure about the Air Norton in the neck, maybe a PAF or Fred might suit better. Whatever you do dont put a pup with a higher output in the neck position. That'll just irritate you in the long run.
I thought only the bridge pickup in Fenders was F-spaced since it is situated at an angle.
