What does a "Q" width knob on an EQ do? I picked up an Ibanez PQL EQ pedal today. (I love the old Ibanez "L" series Ibanez pedals.) It is a parametric EQ with three sliders and two knobs, one knob is a mid frequency boost I think and the other adjusts "Q" to "wide" or "narrow".
Q is literally the quality factor. ER yeh, like anyone understands that. It basically sets how much around the specific bandwidth is affected by the slidder. A slider at 10k doesn't affect just 10k - the q can be set to affect, say an octave either side of 10k, which may seem smoother and more musical, or it can be set to be really narrow, eg on half an octave either side of 10k, eg for removing hiss.
Yes thanks that does make sense. I wonder if the q width knob effects all of the sliders or only the mid knob above it. This is what it looks like.
