Hello.. First of all id like to say, ive never played a JEM or even seen one in person ( sucks i know.. ) I own various high end guitars and amps so I know what I like.. What I am looking for is a comparison between an RG1570's neck ( 5 piece wizard prestige, used in all prestige RG from what I understand? ) --- and a JEM neck.. The neck on my 1570 is crazy thin, and very wide, obviously, i dont need to explain this to you.. I am just wondering if there is any difference in the shape and feel of the JEM necks, and if so, which is favorable. Thanks
-Steve
There isn't a lot of difference in the neck, IMO. I've played a Jem and in comparison to my yamaha, the neck feels just as thin. If you like the neck profile on your 1570, you should be fine picking up a Jem b/c your hand will feel right at home.
the neck on the 1527 is slightly thinner than the one on the jem, the one on the jem has a D sape profile (i think) and the fretboard is flatter than an asians butt.
i have a Prestige and a Jem and both are fairly decent necks!!! The Prestige is noticeably thinner than the Jem, and the Jem IS more D shaped!!! The only critisizm of the Jem is that the high E string is more prone to slipping off the side of the neck than i'd like, even when strung w/ .10s!!! i know that Steve Vai likes to use that trick every now and then, so maybe it's an intentional quirk of that neck!!!>
I own both, and the necks are comparable. I just played around with both this morning before going to work. The Jem neck is just very slightly thicker in the middle, I think. Almost unnoticeably so. The 1570 feels like is is just slightly thicker at the shoulder.
A newer 1570 may be of better quality than an older Jem, from what I can tell. I just got the 1570 and I'm very impressed with it. The neck is really, really good.
you guys also have to take into account the various different jem neck profiles over the years. Some would be very close to the 1570 while others noticeably different.
I just assumed he meant a recent JEM, like the 7VWH or something. Yes, though, there has been a number of different profile necks on JEM's over the years.
Well I could be biased by the fact that my RG 1570 is about 3 days old. So it's totally pristine. All of my other guitars have a small collection of imperfections at this point. You'd probably have to compare them all brand new to have a fair comparison.
Looking back at Shogun's original posting, ...I think that the RG 1570's neck is very comparable to a recent Jem 7V. If you like one, you'd probably like the other.
