Hi, I need help wiring my RG. It has a five way selector switch. I have an EVO in the bridge, and I have put (tried to put) a Gibson humbucker in the neck. It doesnt have 4 wires only two (hot and screen). Can I use the lug on the switch where the other coil split was previously wired??? If so, can i put a joining wire and wire the gibson to the neck position, AND the split position so that the split (pos2) will give full humbucker and single coil?????
The 5 way switch is an old one with 8 lugs all in a row. It was wired similar to the old jem 7. When the guitar is placed face down, and the back unscrewed the lugs from left to right I think do this :

Hi!
The 5 way switch is an old one with 8 lugs all in a row. It was wired similar to the old jem 7. When the guitar is placed face down, and the back unscrewed the lugs from left to right I think do this :
You wires seem a bit off. It should be: 1. Neck hot (red)
2. Middle hot (black)
3. Bridge hot (red)
4. Hot (to volume pot)
5. Open (no wire)
6. Neck split (black + white)
7. Gound (to volume pot)
8. Bridge split (black + white)
To wire the Gibson pup in.
1. Solder the hot wire to lug #1.
2. Solder a jumper wire from lug #1 to #6.
3. Solder the plain wire to ground (volume pot).
This will give you the full humbucker/single coil combo in the #2 switch position (full neck being #1 and full bridge being #5).
Jimm, why would you jumper #1 to #6? I thought you would just leave #6 open. Won't this ground the Gibson humbucker in position #2, leaving only the single coil on? -Andy
I have obviously got it so very wrong lol!! I thought the black and white wires were the hot of each coil and therefore the full humbucker in series. I then thought the red wire was only one coil and hence the split position. Geez now it all makes sense .
Thanks so much for the help!!
