Steve Vai's Charvel & Misc Customs

The following Ibanez guitars were built for Steve Vai. All were built BEFORE his Ibanez contract and subsequent introduction of the JEM guitars at Summer NAMM 1987. These are presented in their approximate order of appearance. None were mass produced or resold to the public, except the Flame Guitar.

Perhaps this is the guitar that the Shocking Pink JEM777 was modeled after. Vai toured with Alcatrazz using this Jackson Soloist. It is also credited in the SVGE Tabbook as being used to record Ladies Nite in Buffalo. There are a few versions of this guitar. The guitar was repainted after the Alcatrazz tour a lighter pink.

OK, here is a nice picture of this guitar. It's a "Fluorescent Orange Jackson Soloist with blue eyeballs." I wonder how similar the '98 UV77PBK's eye-pramid will look to this! This guitar has a 24 fret neck with bound fretboard, DiMarzio X2N humbucker at the bridge with single coil pickups in the middle & neck position. This guitar was stolen. "I think I'm gonna have them [DiMarzio] make me a pickup which is a little different." Later recovered and to the Hard Rock Cafe in Las Vegas

Note Kahler tremolo. This is one of the few Vai guitars equipped with a Kahler tremolo.
