The Custom RG421 Project is well on it's way to completion. This Made in Japan RG421 w/ Wizard-II neck has been modified with chrome pickup rings & hardware to replace the boring cosmoblack ones. The real focus is obviously the custom vine inlay courtesy of LGM Guitars. The inlay material is a colorful synthetic abalone, and the dual stems are brass wire that will age and tarnish giving an even better look over time. Over time, pickups will be changed and coil-splitting and phase switches added for added tonal variety.

"When people think of heavy rock guitars, the first guitar that comes to mind is the RG" explained an Ibanez spokesperson. "And when people think of the RG they think locking tremolo because so many heavy rock playerseven those who dont use the tremolo arm like the stability of the RGs Edge and Lo-TRS bridges. But there are still plenty of players who want the simplicity and sustain of a hard-tailed axe, especially those playing rhythm or using alternate and drop tunings. Plus many existing RG players have told us they want to be able to switch back and forth between locking and fixed bridge axes without making a major style adjustment. For all those players, weve got the new RG421." - Ibanez Summer NAMM 2001
