If you can plug in your amp you can use this piece of gear. This is a filter that sits in between your amp's power cord and the power socket.

I have the luxury of having two identical little Crate V5 combo amps. I plugged them both into the same power outlet in my house (one in the top outlet, one in the bottom) and turned them on with the volume at about 3/4. They both exhibited the usual hiss/cyclical 60-HZ noise. Then I turned off the bottom amp, unplugged it, put the Ebtech Hum X in-line, plugged it back in, and turned it back on. No noise. I repeated this operation with the other amp just to make sure I wasn't crazy. No noise. I've lived with the fact that the power in my house is "less than desirable" when it comes to noise...

Plug feels very sturdy. I've plugged it into multiple pieces of gear and had no problems. I can't say I'd gig it without a backup because I intend to have several of these around in the near future because it is now a must-have component for me. I won't play another gig without my gear plugged into an Ebtech.

Never had to deal with them--product is simple and straight-forward with excellent results.
|
| Liked about it: |
No-brainer to install.
Outstanding reduction of ground loop and dirty power noise.
Sideways design doesn't cover the other outlet!

| Didn't like: |
I theoretically COULD complain that it's a little expensive, but for what you get, I can't bring myself to do so. Would be worth it at twice the price.

How many times have you had all your cables out before a practice or gig, with no way of remembering or knowing which ones aren't quite to snuff? This may be the solution to that and many more problems.
Having previously owned and used the plug in Hum-Eliminator EBtech makes, I had my hopes high and this didn't let me down.
Now to form/function...
I work part time with a sound and production company in Fayetteville NC, and we probably use 300 different cables in a weekend, and we have to label the suspicious ones and try and repair them early in the week (bummer!), When this tester came...

| Liked about it: |
-Well made in the USA.
-TRuly versatile and accurate.
-Smaller, easier to use, and cheaper than many professional competitors.
|
| Didn't like: |
-Can't change batteries without a screwdriver.
-Some people may be confused by lack of instruction manual.

| Ease Of Use: |
This is an extremely easy piece of gear to use. Being passive, it requires no power. Simply plug in the connections in the correct direction to switch between -10db and +4db.
|
| Sound: |
No perceptible tone coloration or signal degredation. This piece of gear REMOVES problems instead of introducing them. No more adjusting levels to extremes because you have pedals and rack gear in the same loop.
|
| Reliability: |
Built like a tank and passive, so no electricity needed. Few moving parts, so very little to fail. Have been running it without a backup and will continue to do so.
|
| Customer Support: |
Never had a problem with any Morley or Ebtech product, so never had to call customer support.
|
| Liked about it: |
Extremely simple to use.
Solves an age-old problem--hum elimination is a bonus.
Built to last.

| Ease Of Use: |
This unit couldn't be any more easy to use. Simply insert the Ins and Outs of the HE-8 in between two pieces of gear and you're done. Yes, it requires more patch cables, but the trade-off of a quiet rack is definitely worth it. The HE-8 is passive so requires no power and does not color tone at all!
|
| Sound: |
As previously noted, the HE-8 does not color sound at all because it has no sound-affecting components. The main purpose of the HE-8 is to break ground loops, but you get much more than that. The HE-8 is also capable of converting between balanced and unbalanced inputs. The best of both worlds!!
|
| Reliability: |
Haven't had an issue with it since I purchased it (second-hand) and it's been a solid part of my rig ever since. Every component I have goes through the HE-8 and my rig has never been more quiet. The only noise that gets generated is preamp noise when I really crank the gain.

| Customer Support: |
Never had to call them--every Ebtech/Morley product I own is rock-solid.
|
| Liked about it: |
Makes my rig dead quiet!!
Extremely easy to use and understand!
No power required--passive unit!!
|
| Didn't like: |
Only has 8 channels--however, their manual states that if you install your rig one component at a time and only use the HE-8 between offending components, the HE-8 should be able to handle almost any rig.
